Governance and International Regimes (CBC1)

This Committee coordinates Brazilian participation and defends the position of the country in the governing bodies of international organizations, acting in the radiocommunication, standardization, development and telecommunications policies deliberative collegiate of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), of Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) and Mercosur. On issues related to international trade agreements on telecommunications services, CBC1 interacts, under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), with the World Trade Organization (WTO).
In addition, the CBC1 is involved with issues relating to Internet governance, such as: definition of strategic guidelines related to the use and development of the Internet; development of standards for the design and management of the Internet; infrastructure services; IP addressing; Domain Name Systems (DNS); cost of international connections; SPAM; stability; security; privacy; intellectual property; accessibility; freedom of expression; and rights of users.
Under these topics, the assignment of the Committee is to act in coordination with the other CBCs in the work of the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC), linked to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN); and the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), linked to the United Nations (UN).
The CBC1 also operates in the work developed by the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) with the aim of discussing national issues related to the use and development of the internet that can give benefit to the defense of Brazil's position in the deliberative meetings promoted by international institutions.
