Results of the partnership between LA-BORA! gov and MIT GOV/LAB (USA) in an online event
On April 25th, starting at 3 pm, LA-BORA! gov, an innovative management laboratory of the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (Seges/MGI), will hold an online event to share the results of an international study that highlights it as a creator of conducive environments for public servants to innovate in the Brazilian public sector. The work was developed in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Governance Lab (MIT GovLab), from the United States.
The opening will be conducted by Minister Esther Dweck and Secretary of Management and Innovation of MGI, Roberto Pojo. The event will also feature the presence of Seges' Director of Government Innovation, Claudia Martinelli, LA-BORA! Gov's leader, Luana Faria, and MIT's Program Director, Rosabelli Coelho. Participation is open to the public and does not require prior registration. Simply access MGI's YouTube channel to watch live, in Portuguese, with Libras interpretation available.
Entitled "Catching Innovative Feels: How One Lab in Brazil Is Creating the Space and Support for Civil Servants to Innovate", the study highlights the working methods of the so-called Free-las and Time Volante, terms coined by LA-BORA! gov to simplify and scale work possibilities in the Public Administration without additional costs.
The article shows that network collaboration and the creation of psychologically safe environments can support tackling challenges and improve citizens' lives. The aim of disseminating the work is to inspire other government institutions around the world to invest in the potential that collaborative innovation has to transform public service.
Research Insights
MIT researcher Vineet Abhishek spent two months in Brazil and, in Brasília, interviewed leaders and visited government agencies of the Time Volante team. The interviews yielded research insights, such as the enormous interest of civil servants in experimenting with new innovation approaches.
It was also found that the working model of Free-las and Time Volante are highly replicable and scalable models in government, besides being simple and allocating competence according to the needs of Public Administration and the interest of the server itself, which generates more engagement.
