Brazil Conference 2023
Representatives from LA-BORA! gov were present at the 9th edition of the Brazil Conference, which took place from March 31st to April 1st in Cambridge, USA. The event is organized annually by the Brazilian student community at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, USA. The objective of the gathering is to create a diverse space for discussions, generating ideas about Brazil's future and fostering transformations that will improve the lives of the Brazilian population.
Over the course of 2 days, academics, experts, and government leaders discussed topics such as artificial intelligence, education of the future, mental health, government priorities for the next 4 years, and transparency and efficiency in the judiciary. Isabela Blumm, Head of the Division of Innovative Practices and Knowledge Dissemination at LA-BORA! gov, and Júlio Medeiros, project manager, share the same opinion: participation in events like the Brazil Conference offers an excellent opportunity to establish partnerships, discuss topics of mutual interest, and create innovative solutions for public challenges.
Furthermore, the mission also facilitated adjustments and progress in the partnership between MGI and the MIT Governance Lab (MIT GOV/LAB), which will use LA-BORA! gov's experience to develop a case study that will soon be published in the Institute's Case Study Fellowship program. The partnership will also involve the contribution of a partner researcher in LA-BORA! gov projects and will foster a community of practices among innovation labs in the global south.
The visit to Cambridge also allowed for a meeting with one of the members of the recently established LA-BORA! gov Scientific Committee (CCL): Rosabelli Keyssar from MIT Brazil – an initiative that seeks to connect MIT students and professors with projects in Brazil. During this opportunity, strategies for strengthening the CCL and possibilities for new academic partnerships in the field of innovation in public management, researcher exchange, and dissemination of best practices were discussed.
With this experience, LA-BORA! gov further expands its horizons and strategic partnerships with international academic institutions, while also participating in cutting-edge debates about innovation in public management in specialized forums.
