A partnership between the Ministry of Sport and the Brazilian Triathlon Confederation (Confederação Brasileira de Triathlon - CBTRI) has brought the World Triathlon Cup Brasília 2024 to the JK shore of Lake Paranoá, taking place from November 6 to 9. The Ministry of Sport invested BRL 720,000 in the event.
The Brasília event will welcome 82 elite triathletes from 19 countries. Triathlon, considered the world's fastest-growing sport in terms of participants, combines swimming, cycling, and running. Beyond promoting a healthy lifestyle and a connection with nature, the Brasília competition will adhere to international standards, promising thrilling displays of skill and endurance.
Among the 82 athletes taking part in the competition, 17 are Brazilian, and 15 of them are beneficiaries of the Ministry of Sports Bolsa Atleta (Athlete Grant) program, distributed in the national, international, Olympic, and podium categories. One of the highlights of the Triathlon Cup will be triathlete Miguel Hidalgo, ranked 10th in the sport, who had great visibility at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and Brazil's best result in the history of Olympic triathlon.
HIGH COMPETITIVENESS — “The triathlon competition represents an important milestone in the history of this sport in Brazil, helping to strengthen the development of athletes in a highly competitive environment, as well as promoting fundamental technical exchanges. The event also allows Brazilian athletes to experience an international competition on national territory, generating a positive impact on sports practice and raising the technical level of the sport,” stated the National Secretary for Sports Excellence, Iziane Marques.
Marques added that, in addition to having gains from the sport, the Triathlon World Cup favors and boosts the economy and values tourism in Brasilia, positioning the capital as a destination for large competitions. The event also symbolizes Brazil's ability to host prestigious sporting events and provides a vibrant and inspiring experience for the population, encouraging young people to connect with sports. “Our commitment at the National Secretariat for Sporting Excellence is to support initiatives that develop sports and foster talent, in line with the vision of giving Brazil an increasingly important role on the international sporting scene,” she concluded.
