Brazil breaks record and opens 100 new markets for agribusiness in 2024
Working alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs [Ministério das Relações Exteriores/MRE], Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock [Ministério da Agricultura e Pecuária /MAPA] has just reached the milestone of 100 new market openings in just 8 months. Since the beginning of President Lula's third term, 178 new markets have been opened in 58 destinations across all continents.
According to MAPA’s Secretariat for Trade and International Relations, the new milestone far exceeds the figures for the last five years: in 2019, there were 35 new markets in 22 countries; in 2020, 74 in 24 countries; in 2021, 77 in 33 countries; in 2022, 53 in 26 countries; and, in 2023, 78 in 39 countries.
The monthly figures for 2024 show 26 new markets in June (13 countries); 16 in July (nine countries); 15 in May (10 countries); 10 in March (seven countries); seven in February (six countries); nine in January (five countries); and five in April (three countries).
So far, in August, there have been 11 openings: to Angola — live sheep and goats for breeding, as well as embryos and semen from these animals; to Costa Rica — avocados; to Egypt — meat on the bone; to Panama — poultry and pork meat and offal; to the European Union — live horses; and to Indonesia — yerba mate.
“The achievement of 100 new market openings in just eight months, before the end of the year, is a historic feat for Brazilian agribusiness. This is a milestone that reflects the determination and continuous effort of Minister Carlos Fávaro and the entire MAPA team to diversify the agenda and expand opportunities for Brazilian agricultural products in world trade. Each new achievement reaffirms our commitment to sustainable growth and competitiveness in the sector, striving to open doors to our producers on all continents,” highlighted Roberto Perosa, the Ministry's Secretary for Trade and International Relations.
