African Union, Togo and Brazil hold the Conference of the African Diaspora in the Americas
From August 29 to 31, 2024, Salvador (BA) will host the Conference of the African Diaspora in the Americas, organized by the African Union and the government of Togo, in partnership with Brazil’s Federal Government and the Government of the State of Bahia, and with the support of the Federal University of Bahia [Universidade Federal da Bahia] and the Brazil-Africa Institute [Instituto Brasil-África]. This event aims to strengthen African roots around the world and to establish greater dialogue between representatives of the State and civil society of the countries of the African Union and the Americas.
With the largest Afro-descendant population outside of Africa and two decades of experience with racial equality promotion policies, Brazil was invited by the African Union High Committee on the Decade of African Roots and Diaspora to host this meeting.
Experts, researchers, relevant names in culture, social movement leaders and other representatives from the public and private sectors will be in the capital of Bahia to discuss Pan-Africanism, memory, restitution, reparation and reconstruction. The event will be limited to invited participants from the African Union and the Americas. The program for the civil society segment will be held between August 29 and 30 and for the government segment on August 31.
The Conference will be one of the preparatory stages for the 9th Pan-African Congress which will take place in Togo from October 29 to November 2, 2024 under the theme "Renewal of Pan-Africanism and Africa's role in the reform of multilateral institutions: mobilizing resources and reinventing itself to act.”
Additional information about broadcasting and press accreditation will be released soon.
