Brazilian agribusiness exports reach USD 15.20 bi in June, total USD 82.39 bi in first half of 2024

Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled USD 15.20 billion in June 2024, an increase over the USD 15.02 billion exported in May.
Brazilian grain exports increased from 14.96 million tons in June 2023 to 15.07 million tons in June 2024 (+0.7%). The increase in grain exports was matched by rises in other products, such as: sugar cane (+335.1 thousand tons); cellulose (+182.8 thousand tons); raw and uncombed cotton (+100.1 thousand tons); soybean meal (+84.0 thousand tons); green coffee (+64.6 thousand tons). The total increase in agricultural exports was 4.5%.
“The increase in exports in the first half of 2024 reflects not only the excellence of our products but also the result of record market openings and constant dialogue with other countries. Government incentives and support from the sector and associations have been fundamental for this growth, demonstrating the strength and competitiveness of Brazilian agribusiness internationally, as well as the quality and strict sanitary control of our products,” underscored Roberto Perosa, secretary of Trade and International Relations at the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA).
In the cumulative period of the last 12 months, agribusiness exports totaled USD 166.20 billion, representing a 2.4% growth compared to the previous 12 months. Between July 2023 and June 2024, Agribusiness products represented 48.6% of all Brazilian exports, 0.2% above the participation verified between July 2022 and June 2023.
HIGHLIGHTS – From January until June 2024, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached USD 82.39 billion, the second-largest amount ever recorded in this historical series. During this period, the five main agribusiness sectors were particularly significant. The soybean complex led exports with USD 33.53 billion, representing 40.7% of the total. Following this was the meat sector, which exported USD 11.81 billion, equivalent to 14.3% of agribusiness exports. The sugarcane and alcohol complex registered USD 9.22 billion, accounting for 11.2% of the total, while forest products added USD 8.34 billion, representing 10.1%. Lastly, the coffee sector reached USD 5.31 billion, corresponding to 6.4% of exports. Together, these sectors accounted for 82.8% of Brazilian agribusiness external sales.
The meat sector, the second-largest exporting sector, registered 1.6% growth compared to 2023, reaching USD 11.81 billion. Bovine meat was a standout, comprising 48.1% of total exports at USD 5.14 billion, marking an 18.3% increase. The volume of fresh bovine meat exports set a record at 1.14 million tons, reflecting a 29.1% increase. The sugarcane and alcohol complex exports rose from USD 5.99 billion in 2023 to USD 9.22 billion in 2024, a 54.1% increase. Sugar, the sector's primary product, reached USD 8.66 billion, a 62.8% increase. Raw cane sugar exports also hit record highs, totaling USD 7.21 billion in value and 14.33 million tons in quantity.
Forest products saw an 11.9% increase, reaching a total of USD 8.34 billion. Cellulose accounted for 59.6% of this total, amounting to USD 4.97 billion, reflecting a 19.5% increase. The volume of exported cellulose also set a record for the first semester, reaching nearly 10 million tons, a 3.1% increase. The coffee sector stood out with external sales totaling USD 5.31 billion, marking a 46.1% increase in value and a 52.1% increase in quantity compared to the previous year.
In addition to these, other products also presented a remarkable performance. Raw and uncombed cotton reached a record of USD 2.68 billion, an increase of 236%, with 1.39 million tons exported, a growth of 228%. Orange juice also hit a record with USD 1.25 billion in exports, a 24% increase.
