Planning Ministry Secretary of International Affairs and Development Renata Amaral signed a letter of intent with the Mexican Ministry of Finance and Public Credit and the US Treasury Department on Friday (June 28), in Mexico City, aiming to improve the performance of regional multilateral development banks. “The Ministry of Planning and Budget [Ministério de Planejamento e Orçamento/MPO] is committed to this new partnership to continue to improve the governance of regional development banks and to advance efforts towards larger and more effective multilaterals,” she said.
The initiative calls for supporting reforms to strengthen private capital and the mobilization of domestic resources; offering innovative financial tools that are consistent with the recommendations of the G20 Independent Review of Multilateral Development Banks' (MDB) Capital Adequacy Frameworks (G20 CAF Review); and improving the effectiveness of financing instruments.
The signing took place at the event “The role of Multilateral Banks in regional economic growth," promoted by the Government of Mexico in partnership with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), the French Development Agency (AFD), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF).
The Mexican Undersecretariat for Finance and Public Credit, represented by Undersecretary Gabriel Yorio, organized the event. Undersecretary Alexia Latortue represented the United States Department of the Treasury. The debates adressed the importance of coordinating efforts to promote regional economic growth through regional value chains and an equitable energy transition.
