President Lula to participate in ceremony remembering events of January 8, 2023
On Wednesday, January 8, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will participate in a ceremony focused on the events that took place on January 8, 2023. The occasion will feature a series of ceremonies throughout the day, including the presentation of restored works of art at Alvorada Palace and in Switzerland, the unveiling of Di Cavalcanti's painting As Mulatas and a symbolic act at Praça dos 3 Poderes.
The first session will begin at 9.30 a.m. in Planalto Palace's Audience Room, where artwork, including a 17th-century clock and an amphora, will be reinstated. These pieces are viewed as symbols of the challenges and delicate nature of restoration. Notably, the Brazilian government incurred no costs for the clock's repair in Switzerland. The restoration process will conclude with the delivery of 21 restored pieces to Alvorada Palace and the clock to Switzerland, which will be open to the press for image only.
The second session will take place on the third floor of Planalto Palace at 10.30am, and will be open to the press. During this session, Di Cavalcanti's As Mulatas will be unveiled. Additionally, five Heritage Education Project students will present President Lula with replicas of the amphora and As Mulatas.
The third session is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in the Salão Nobre of Planalto Palace, where the general press and authorities are expected to attend.
The fourth session, titled "Embrace of Democracy," will take place at Praça dos 3 Poderes. Following the events in Salão Nobre, President Lula will descend the ramp of Planalto Palace alongside key authorities to greet the public during the event.
The ceremony will be attended by authorities from the three branches of government, as well as members of the Ministry of Culture [Ministério da Cultura/MinC], the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute [Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional/Iphan], the Federal University of Pelotas [Universidade Federal de Pelotas/UFPel], the Swiss Embassy, and civil society movements.
Professionals from the press who have completed their daily accreditation for the date of the event, as well as those holding annual credentials from the Planalto Palace, are invited to participate.
