President Lula talks with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, on Tuesday, January 7, at around 12:00 p.m. (Brasília time). Over 30 minutes, the leaders discussed the bilateral relations which celebrated their 50th anniversary last year.
Lula recalled his visit to Doha in November 2023, and thanked the Emir for participating in the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The President also congratulated Qatar for its support for the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, and its decision to host the Alliance's first Summit, in November, in parallel with the United Nations World Summit for Social Development. The President noted that the first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, returned from Doha last September impressed by the work of Sheikha Mozah, “queen mother” of Qatar and mother of the current Emir, carried out through the Education Above All Foundation.
The two heads of state also discussed ways to expand bilateral trade and identify opportunities for Qatari investments in Brazil in various fields. Finally, through their ministries of Foreign Affairs, they set a date for the Emir's visit to Brazil this year.
