President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, in Rio de Janeiro this Sunday (17), the day before the G20 Summit.
President Lula explained the priorities of Brazil's G20 Presidency and invited Meloni for a new visit to Brazil shortly after the G20 to promote an economic meeting between the two countries.
Prime Minister Meloni recalled 800,000 Italian citizens and 30 million people of Italian descent in Brazil. Therefore, this first visit to Latin America does not exhaust the need for a new visit to Brazil.
Meloni recalled that Italian companies planned to invest EUR 40 billion in Brazil and spoke about updating the partnership agreements and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The two heads of State also spoke about Enel, a mixed capital company with the participation of the Italian state, and the need to make progress in improving the services provided by the company, particularly in São Paulo.
Also participating in the meeting were ministers Mauro Vieira (Foreign Affairs), Fernando Haddad (Finance), Rui Costa (Chief of Staff), Carlos Fávaro (Agriculture), and Alexandre Silveira (Mines and Energy), as well as Celso Amorim (Special Advisor to the President).
