President Lula receives phone call from the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau
Trudeau stressed his support for the Brazilian government's efforts in favor of democracy and transparency in Venezuela's electoral process, as well as in promoting dialogue and upholding the rule of law.
Lula commented that there is a history of mistakes on the part of the international community regarding Venezuela, specifically mentioning the imposition of sanctions and the recognition of Juan Guaidó as president.
The Brazilian president highlighted the coordinated efforts by Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico to bring the political situation in Venezuela back to normal. “It is most important that we maintain South America free of conflicts, with prosperity and harmony,” said President Lula, who underscored the importance of maintaining a dialogue between the Maduro administration and the opposition.
President Lula also invited the Prime Minister to the meeting of democratic governments against extremism, to be held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, in a joint initiative with the president of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.
