Lula speaks on the phone with the President of Peru, Dina Boluarte
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received a phone call from the President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, this Wednesday (28) afternoon. He was accompanied by Special Advisor Celso Amorim during the conversation, which lasted around 35 minutes. The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of democracy and the political, economic, and logistical integration of South-America.
Boluarte recalled the meeting they had in Belém (PA), at the margins of the Amazonian Summit, one year ago. She expressed gratitude for the Brazilian support in representing Peru's interests in Venezuela after diplomatic relations between the two countries were severed. She also thanked Brasil for its stance in seeking a solution for the electoral impasse in Venezuela.
Lula thanked Boluarte for Peru's invitation for Brazil to join the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, to be held in Lima in November, and expressed his interest in attending.
He commented on the need for a fully functional general secretariat at ACTO [the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization] to strengthen the organization and support the Amazonian countries. Furthermore, he invited Peru to join the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, launched by Brazil in the context of the G20.
