Lula has bilateral with Italy PM and G7 host Giorgia Meloni

As the last meeting of his busy G7 schedule in Italy, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had a bilateral with Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, who hosted the event.
Lula congratulated Meloni on organizing the G7, thanked her for her solidarity following the floods that hit Rio Grande do Sul and discussed Italian President Sergio Mattarella’s upcoming July visit to Brazil, with a diversified agenda that includes a visit to the Brazilian-Italian community.
The Brazilian president invited the Prime Minister to visit Brasil. He suggested that she bring a business delegation with her, given the many Italian companies and descendants in Brasil.
On the political agenda, the two leaders addressed food security, social development and energy transition, and highlighted the deep historical ties that link the two nations.
G20 – Meloni confirmed her presence at the G20 Summit on November 18 and 19, in Rio de Janeiro. Lula discussed the importance of bringing together the international community to tackle the challenge of having 750 million people facing hunger or severe food insecurity around the world. The Global Alliance against Hunger is one of the Brazilian G20 presidency’s top banners. Lula also highlighted another G20 national priority: reforming global governance institutions and giving the United Nations a renewed role.

SPEECH – On Friday, during a speech as guest at the G7 Summit, President Lula proposed global governance of Artificial Intelligence, defended taxation of the super-rich and highlighted the need to face climate change with a focus on human dignity.
BILATERAL – President Lula also met with the representative of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen; with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi; with the President of Türkiye, Recep Erdoğan; and with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. Lula also attended a meeting with Pope Francis. Earlier on Saturday, Lula met with the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
