In Italy, Lula invites German Chancellor Scholz to join Global Alliance Against Hunger

Opening the last day of official G7 engagements in Italy, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held a bilateral meeting on Saturday (15) with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz.
Scholz expressed his solidarity to the Brazilian people following the floods that hit Rio Grande do Sul. The two leaders discussed the political situation in Europe and Latin America, as well as the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.
President Lula highlighted the agendas that happen around the G20. In 2024, Brazil, as president of the group, will host the meeting of the Summit of Nations on November 18 and 19, in Rio de Janeiro. Lula invited Germany to the Global Alliance Against Hunger, one of Brazil's priorities at the G20 presidency and emphasized the need to reform global governance institutions.
The presidents also discussed the agreement between Mercosul and the European Union, and the World Trade Organization.

SPEECH – On Friday, during a speech as guest at the G7 Summit, President Lula proposed global governance of Artificial Intelligence, advocated taxing the super-rich and highlighted the need to tackle climate change with a focus on human dignity.
BILATERAL – President Lula also had meetings with the representative of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen; with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi; with Turkish President Recep Erdoğan; with French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as having a meeting with Pope Francis.
