During call with Lula, Türkiye’s President Erdogan offers solidarity amid RS flood
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spoke over the phone this Thursday morning (9) with the President of Türkiye, Tayyip Erdogan.
President Lula thanked Erdogan for his letter of solidarity regarding the flood crisis in Rio Grande do Sul. The two leaders discussed the humanitarian tragedy and the Brazilian government's efforts to assist the affected population. The Turkish president reiterated Türkiye's solidarity with the people of Rio Grande do Sul.
Lula and Erdogan also discussed the situation in Gaza and Ukraine. They unanimously called for all parties involved in those conflicts to agree to an immediate ceasefire and to engage in peace negotiations. Regarding the Middle East, the Brazilian and Turkish presidents reiterated their support for the solution of two independent states, Israel and Palestine, coexisting peacefully, with mutually and internationally recognized borders.
Erdogan declared that he will visit Brazil for the G20 Summit, where he looks forward to meeting with President Lula in person. The G20 Leaders' Summit is scheduled for November 18 and 19, 2024, in Rio de Janeiro.
