Brazil’s Lula meets with Chinese chancellor in preparatory meeting prior to visit by the president of China

Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi, this Friday (January 19), at the Air Base of Fortaleza, where Lula took part in a series of agendas. The Chinese chancellor's trip is preparatory to a state visit by the president of China, Xi Jinping, to Brazil. The visit is to take place alongide the G20 leaders' meeting in Rio, in November.

The minister brought greetings from President Xi Jinping—and the meeting itself expressed the mutual desire to maintain and develop the strong relationship and friendship that exist between Brazil and China. Lula reaffirmed Brazil’s recognition of “one China”.
During the meeting, Lula and Wang Yi talked about investments by BYD—which is setting up a car factory in the state of Bahia—in Brazil.
The Brazilian president and the Chinese chancellor also discussed the current international situation, as well as the growing partnership between Brazil and China in the renewable energy sector, and discussed joint projects and actions in Africa.
Wang Yi stated that Brazil is a priority for Chinese diplomacy.
