President Lula talks by videoconference with the President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana
Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spoke via videoconference, this Thursday afternoon (9), with the president of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana Irfaan Ali.
President Lula was congratulated by Ali for his work at the Brazilian government and for his outstanding role in advancing regional integration –– and then listened to an account of Guyana’s desire to strengthen its cooperation with Brazil in the fields of infrastructure and logistics. He was also invited to visit Guyana for the 46th CARICOM Summit next February.
Lula responded that he will favor the progress of cooperation with Guyana on all fronts, highlighting the fields of infrastructure –– through the construction of highways, ports and hydroelectric plants that are important for advancing the integration of South America in logistics and energy. He said he was grateful for the invitation to participate in the CARICOM Summit, and offered support to Guyana's participation in the next meeting of ACTO foreign ministers in Brasilia. The two leaders agreed to meet in Dubai in early December, during COP28.
Guyana is the country with the world’s highest economic growth rate –– an expected 38% in 2023, according to the IMF, with emphasis on the energy industry.
