PRESS NOTE
Security Council Meeting on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
As president of the UN Security Council, Brazil summoned members on Sunday (October 8) to urgently discuss the latest developments of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Whilst deeply regretting the loss of lives, Brazil condemned attacks against civilians.
Brazil stressed that the parties must refrain from violence against civilians and fulfill their obligations under international humanitarian law. Brazil called for maximum restraint to avoid an escalation with unpredictable consequences to international peace and security. It also emphasized that unblocking the peace process is extremely urgent.
The Brazilian government reiterates its commitment to the two-State solution, through which an economically viable Palestinian State may live peacefully and safely alongside Israel within borders that have been mutually agreed upon and are internationally recognized.
