President Lula met with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh in South Africa

Today, August 24 – during the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, South Africa –, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva attended a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheik Hasina Wajed.
During the meeting, Lula was invited by the prime minister to visit Bangladesh. The Brazilian president will analyze the possibility of paying a visit to the Asian nation of 170 million in 2024. Bangladesh is passionate about soccer and the Brazilian national team. Lula also invited the prime minister to visit Brazil to deepen the relationship between the two countries.
The leaders talked about their respective national social policies to tackle poverty and also discussed trade issues. Bangladesh imports beef, oil, sugar and cotton and is seeking an agreement with the Mercosur.
The prime minister congratulated BRICS countries for the summit organized by South Africa, stating that she considered it a milestone for cooperation among developing countries, and also reiterated her country’s wish to join the bloc.
