President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is going to receive the presidents of ten South American countries next Tuesday (30) – as well as a government representative from Peru – at a gathering at the Itamaraty Palace, in Brasília.
The meeting shall be attended by Alberto Fernández (Argentina), Luís Arce (Bolivia), Gabriel Boric (Chile), Gustavo Petro (Colombia), Guillermo Lasso (Ecuador), Irfaan Ali (Guyana), Mário Abdo Benítez (Paraguay), Chan Santokhi (Suriname), Luís Lacalle Pou (Uruguay), and Nicolás Maduro (Venezuela).
The current president of Peru Dina Boluarte, will be represented by Council of Ministers president Alberto Otárola.
The event’s two sessions will be held on Tuesday at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After being received by Lula, the presidents will gather for a session in which individual statements will be made. A more informal conversation between the South American leaders is planned for the afternoon.
In the evening, all heads of state and delegations will attend a dinner hosted by President Lula and First Lady Janja Lula da Silva at the Alvorada Palace.
DIALOGUE – The South American leaders come to Brazil at Lula’s invitation, since the president wants to resume cooperation and dialogue within the continent. According to ambassador Gisela Figueiredo Padovan, Secretary for Latin America and the Caribbean at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other important topics are in the fields of health, infrastructure, energy, environment and of the fight against organized crime.
“The idea is to resume dialogue and cooperation with South American countries. To identify common gounds.
The region harbors capacities that are key to the future of humanity – such as natural resources, water, minerals, and areas for food production. A concrete cooperation agenda can begin immediately,” said Padovan.
