Lula meets with prominent businesspersons in Japan
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met today (21) with a group of notables – heads of large Japanese business groups with investments in Brazil – in Hiroshima, Japan. The meeting's agenda was an investment in state-of-the-art technology for energy transition and development.
The meeting was attended by businesspersons from traditional Japanese groups belonging to the following sectors: automotive (Toyota); trading (Mitsui); electronics and communications (NEC); and steel (Nippon Steel); as well as by the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). JBIC representatives recently met in Brazil with the vice president and minister of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services, Geraldo Alckmin.
Among the investment opportunities in Brazil are the manufacture of hybrid vehicles for the Asian market, the production of green hydrogen for the global steel industry (reducing emissions), and the development of artificial intelligence for telecommunications.
President Lula highlighted that partnerships between Brazil's National Bank for Economic and Social Development (Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social/BNDES) and the JBIC are necessary.
Lula also said that talks with the group would advance, as will the plans discussed at the meeting. Moreover, the Brazilian government will put a group of notable Japanese businesspersons in contact with Brazil's business community to expand partnerships and investments.
