G7 summit: intense schedule of bilateral meetings awaits Lula in Japan
Lula will take part in three thematic sessions
Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will arrive at midnight this Friday, May 19th (12PM in Brazil) in Hiroshima, Japan, to participate in the expanded G7 summit. The G7 is an informal bloc of industrialized democracies, and includes seven of the world's biggest economies. Lula will take part in three thematic sessions and be otherwise involved in an intense schedule of at least seven bilateral meetings.
At 5 PM on Friday, Lula will meet with the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese.
On Saturday morning (20), at 8:45 AM, Lula will then meet with the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, who – as G7 temporary president and host – in April invited Lula to take part in the summit.
At 10 AM on Saturday, Lula will attend his third scheduled bilateral meeting, this time with the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo.

After lunch, at 3:00 PM, all leaders of the G7 and of the eight guest countries – India, Indonesia, Australia, Cook Islands, Comoros, South Korea and Vietnam were also invited –, along with representatives from international organizations, will hold the summit’s first working session around the theme: “working together to face multiple crises”.
At 5:55 PM, Lula will attend another bilateral meeting, this time with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
Next, at 6:25 PM, the second working session will take place, this time around the topic “joint efforts towards a resilient and sustainable planet.”
Lula’s last appointment on Saturday will be at 8 PM, when he will meet with German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz.
At 9:40 AM on Sunday (May 21st), all heads of delegation and their spouses will visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. The event includes an on-site flower laying ceremony in honor of the Hiroshima atomic bomb victims.
Next, at 10:30 AM, the G7 summit’s third and final working meeting of invited countries will take place around the topic “towards a peaceful, stable and prosperous world.”
After lunch, at 2:30 PM, Lula will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
At 3:15 PM, the Brazilian president will meet the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh.
Afterwards, at 5:00 PM, the president will attend a meeting with a group of Japanese businesspeople and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) representatives. Mitsui, NEC, Nippon Steel and Toyota representatives will also take part.
Before flying back to Brazil on Monday (May 22nd), President Lula will hold a press conference at 8:00 AM local time.
