Fortaleza
Fortaleza is the capital of the state of Ceará, located in the Northeast of Brazil. The city has around 2.4 million inhabitants, making it the fourth largest
population in Brazil, surpassed only by São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Brasília. The Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza (RMF, in the Portuguese acronym), an urban conglomerate that includes 19 neighboring cities, has around 3.9 million inhabitants.
Fortaleza’s innovation ecosystem shows promising characteristics, with higher education institutions such as UFC, UECE, and ITA—one of the most important engineering schools in Brazil—producing human capital and, increasingly, providing infrastructure to foster a dynamic environment for innovation. All of this, combined with the largest GDP in the Northeastern region and the 8th largest in Brazil, reveals opportunities for a dynamic innovation ecosystem.
