Health treatment (VIVIS)
General rules
- Visitor Visas (VIVIS) are aimed at those travelling to Brazil for maximum stays of up to 90 days, without the intention to establish residence, for the purposes of health treatment.
- Please note: applies to short-lasting medical or therapeutic treatments (specified in the medical referral letter), entirely funded by the applicant. If the treatment is due to last more than 90 days, a Temporary Visa (VITEM II) must be requested.
- Foreign nationals from countries with which Brazil holds visa exemption agreements benefit from Visitor Visa (VIVIS) waiver.
- Estonian nationals are exempt from VIVIS as long as their stay does not exceed 90 days every 180 days (counted from the date of first entry, multiple entries permitted).
- USA, Canada and Australia: nationals of those countries traveling as visitors (VIVIS) are visa exempted until April 9th, 2025. After April 10th, 2025, travelers must apply for an E-Visa at: https://brazil.vfsevisa.com
- Alien passport holders (non-citzens/ undefined citzenship/ stateless) must apply for a visa.
- VIVIS holders are strictly forbidden to practise any paid work in Brazil, but are allowed to receive payments from the government, a Brazilian employer or a private entity for the purposes of daily allowances, artistic paychecks, compensation or travel expenses, as well as to receive cash prizes in sports, artistic or cultural competitions.
Required Documentation:
1. VALID PASSPORT
Must have at least two blank pages. Pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes.
2. TRAVEL ITINERARY
One of the following documents must be submitted:
- Booking confirmation (paid ticket or e-ticket) containing the applicant's name and complete travel information (itinerary, flight numbers, arrival / departure dates); or
- Booking reservation or letter from a travel agent containing the applicant's name and complete travel information.
3. PROOF OF SUFFICIENT FINANCIAL MEANS
The proof must be compatible with the entire stay in Brazil.
At least one of the following documents must be submitted:
- Bank statements containing the account holder's name, current balance and transactions from the last 3 months (leading to the week that precedes the interview at the Embassy); and/or
- International credit card statements containing the card holder's name, available credit limit and transactions from the last 3 months (leading to the week that precedes the interview at the Embassy); and/or
- The last 3 payslips.
* As a reference, the applicant must have approximately US$ 100.00 per day available to cover expenses.
4. PROOF OF FINANCIAL MEANS TO COVER ALL TREATMENT EXPENSES
A detailed cost estimate (medical quote) must be presented, in addition to at least one of the following documents:
- Health insurance, valid in Brazil, which provides coverage for the specified treatment; or
- Certificate of health services provision laid down by international agreement or any other means of reimbursement, should the treatment be provided by the Brazilian Unified Health System - SUS (e.g. social security agreements); or
- Sufficient private means to cover all treatment expenses (see item 5 above for accepted documents).
5. ORIGINAL TREATMENT MEDICAL REFERRAL LETTER OR MEDICAL REPORT
The letter must be printed on official letterhead of the health professional or healthcare unit and contain at least the following information:
a) The applicant's full personal details and the healthcare unit or medical professional's details;
b) Description of the patient's condition and proposed treatment plan;
c) Estimated duration of treatment.
6. PROOF OF REGULAR IMMIGRATION STATUS IN ESTONIA (if applicable)
For foreign residents/ non-Estonian citzens
For the visa application, it will also be required:
ONE PHOTOGRAPH
Photo must be in color, front view, white background, size 4 x 5 cm (document/passport size), printed in photographic paper and taken recently (3 months old maximum). The same photo cannot be used for more than one application.
VISA REQUEST FORM RECEIPT (RER)
- The form must be filled in online (click here).
- Enter complete information – please note that some fields are mandatory.
- Parents' names must be entered in full (name and surname), exactly as displayed in the applicant's birth certificate.
- Click on the "Complete Application" button to generate the Visa Request Form Receipt (RER).
- Print and sign the RER; affix your photo on the indicated field.
- If the applicant is under 18 years old, the RER must be signed by both parents.
Gather all original documents listed above. They must be presented during the scheduled interview at the Embassy, along with the RER.
Please note that documents in digital format must be printed (including bank statements downloaded from Internet Banking platforms). Documents shown on mobile device screens will not be accepted.

VISA FEE PAYMENT
The visa fee is paid by online transfer to the Embassy's bank account after the Embassy has received the visa application and all its documents.
Visa fees are not refundable.
