Family Reunion (on the grounds of marriage celebrated by power of attorney) (VIVIS)
General rules
- Visitor Visas (VIVIS) are aimed at those travelling to Brazil for maximum stays of up to 90 days, without the intention to establish residence, for the purposes of family reunion on the grounds of marriage that has been celebrated by power of attorney in Brazil.
- Foreign nationals from countries with which Brazil holds visa exemption agreements benefit from Visitor Visa (VIVIS) waiver.
- Estonian nationals are exempt from VIVIS as long as their stay does not exceed 90 days every 180 days (counted from the date of first entry, multiple entries permitted).
- USA, Canada and Australia: nationals of those countries traveling as visitors (VIVIS) are visa exempted until April 9th, 2025. After April 10th, 2025, travelers must apply for an E-Visa at: https://brazil.vfsevisa.com
- Alien passport holders (non-citzens/ undefined citzenship/ stateless) must apply for a visa.
- VIVIS holders are strictly forbidden to practise any paid work in Brazil, but are allowed to receive payments from the government, a Brazilian employer or a private entity for the purposes of daily allowances, artistic paychecks, compensation or travel expenses, as well as to receive cash prizes in sports, artistic or cultural competitions.
Required Documentation:
1. VALID PASSPORT
Must have at least two blank pages. Pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes.
2. TRAVEL ITINERARY
One of the following documents must be submitted:
- Booking confirmation (paid ticket or e-ticket) containing the applicant's name and complete travel information (itinerary, flight numbers, arrival / departure dates); or
- Booking reservation or letter from a travel agent containing the applicant's name and complete travel information.
3. POLICE BACKGROUND CHECK
Must be issued in English or translated to English and apostiled.
Police checks are valid for up to 3 months from the date of issue.
Please note: if the applicant has lived in multiple countries within the last 12 months, a police check from each country of residence must be provided. They must also be duly legalised (contain an apostille) by the competent authority in the issuing country and, if necessary, translated by a certified translator.
4. ORIGINAL MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE
The applicant must submit the full form marriage certificate ("certidão de casamento de inteiro teor") issued in Brazil, so as to attest that the marriage was celebrated by power of attorney.
5. ORIGINAL IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENT OF THE SPOUSE
The following documents will be accepted:
a) If Brazilian: original Brazilian ID card (RG) or Brazilian passport.
b) If foreign national who is already the beneficiary of residence permit in Brazil: valid foreign passport, valid Brazilian visa, and National Registry of Foreigners card (RNE).
6. UNION AND COHABITATION DECLARATION
Both the applicant and the spouse must sign the declaration, under penalty of perjury of law, stating that they live together as a couple in a factual and legitimate union.
7. RESIDENCE DECLARATION
Both the applicant and the spouse must sign the declaration, under penalty of perjury of law, stating that they already reside or are planning to reside in Brazil.
8. PROOF OF REGULAR IMMIGRATION STATUS IN ESTONIA (if applicable)
For foreign residents/ non-Estonian citzens
For the visa application, it will also be required:
ONE PHOTOGRAPH
Photo must be in color, front view, white background, size 4 x 5 cm (document/passport size), printed in photographic paper and taken recently (3 months old maximum). The same photo cannot be used for more than one application.
VISA REQUEST FORM RECEIPT (RER)
- The form must be filled in online (click here).
- Enter complete information – please note that some fields are mandatory.
- Parents' names must be entered in full (name and surname), exactly as displayed in the applicant's birth certificate.
- Click on the "Complete Application" button to generate the Visa Request Form Receipt (RER).
- Print and sign the RER; affix your photo on the indicated field.
- If the applicant is under 18 years old, the RER must be signed by both parents.
Gather all original documents listed above. They must be presented during the scheduled interview at the Embassy, along with the RER.
Please note that documents in digital format must be printed (including bank statements downloaded from Internet Banking platforms). Documents shown on mobile device screens will not be accepted.

VISA FEE PAYMENT
The visa fee is paid by online transfer to the Embassy's bank account after the Embassy has received the visa application and all its documents.
Visa fees are not refundable.
