FAMILY REUNION VISA (VITEM XI)
ELIGIBILITY
Foreign citizens who wish to establish temporary residence in Brazil, among others:
• Married to a Brazilian national or a foreigner who holds a residence permit in Brazil;
• Child/grandchild of a Brazilian national or a foreigner who holds a residence permit in Brazil;
• Parent/grandparent of a Brazilian national or a foreigner with a residence permit in Brazil;
• Sibling (minor or financially dependent if above 18 years old) of a Brazilian national or a foreigner with a residence permit in Brazil;
• Tutor/guardian of a Brazilian national.
Kindly note that family reunion visas cannot be granted in cases where the sponsor has already received a visa or residence permit for family reunion or is holding provisional residence permit, including asylum seekers.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Legal framework: Ordinance No. 12/2018 (Portuguese only);
Temporary Visas are issued for up to 1 year and the residence period is determined by Federal Police upon registration in Brazil;
Holders of a Temporary Visa must register with the Federal Police in Brazil within 90 days after their first arrival in the country. Applicants will receive a Visa Application Form from the Embassy upon the issuance of the visa, which must be presented for such registration.

Fill out the on-line visa application form. • Print the ¨Visa Form Delivery Receipt¨, paste a PASSPORT SIZE COLOR photograph over WHITE background (ICAO Standards) and SIGN it. It is very important to state the parents' full names, as displayed in your birth/marriage certificate. Important: For minor children (under 18 years old), the printed RER must be signed by both parents. Please note: the Consular Section will only accept applications in which the required documents on this table have been uploaded. |

• Original marriage* certificate (for spouses); • Full version birth certificates for the children, grandchildren, siblings, parents or grandparents; • Tutorship/guardianship document; • In the case of guardianship or financial dependency, documents proving the condition. b) If married outside Brazil to a Brazilian national: the marriage must be registered at a Brazilian consular authority. The applicant may submit either the consular marriage certificate or, if already transcribed in Brazil, the definitive Brazilian marriage certificate. c) If married outside Brazil to a foreign national who is the beneficiary of residence permit in Brazil or who is obtaining a temporary visa (VITEM) to Brazil: the foreign marriage certificate must be legalised (apostilled) by the competent authority in the issuing country. In case of STABLE UNION At least one of the following documents (“a” or “b”) must be presented: a) Civil partnership certificate issued by the competent authority in India. OR b) a deed of stable union (“Escritura Pública Declaratória de União Estável”), issued by a notary public in Brazil, Attention: Upon registration with the Federal Police (DPMAF) in Brazil, the foreign national must present a birth (or marriage) certificate containing parents' full names, which must be duly legalized/apostilled by the competent authority in the issuing country and subsequently translated by a sworn translator (“tradutor juramentado”) in Brazil. |

Visa Authorization Form, signed by both parents and notarized. If the minor is travelling alone or without one of the parents in Brazil, a Travel Authorization Form, signed by both parents, notarized and apostilled by the MEA, is also required. |

The statement must be signed by the sponsor in the presence of the consular authority upon presentation of the passport or identification card or, if the sponsor is in Brazil, the document should have the signature certified by a notary public ("tabelião") in Brazil. |

In cases of family reunion by marriage/stable union, joint statement signed by the Brazilian and foreign parties, under the penalties of the law, regarding the continuity of effective union and coexistence. |

ATTENTION
Registration with the Federal Police (DPMAF) within 90 days of arrival in Brazil. For this purpose, it is mandatory to present the VISA APPLICATION FORM (which will be delivered by the Consular Section together with the passport) upon entry.
IMPORTANT
Upon registration, the foreign national must present a document containing both parents' full names (full birth or marriage certificate), which must be duly legalized/apostilled by the competent authority in the issuing country and subsequently translated by a certified translator (“tradutor juramentado”) in Brazil.The requirements are not all-inclusive. When processing a visa submission, the Embassy may request additional information/documentation or call the applicant for an interview, at date and time specified by the Consular Authority.
