DIPLOMATIC AND OFFICIAL VISA
DIPLOMATIC AND OFFICIAL VISA (VIDIP/VISOF)
Holders of diplomatic or official Indian passports are exempt from visas for stays of up to 90 days. For longer stays and accreditation, a visa is required. The application for these visas could be submitted in India or in Brazil.
General rules
• The diplomatic visa is granted to diplomats, government staff or employees of International Organizations with diplomatic status on an official mission to Brazil, either permanent or temporary.
• The official visa is granted for those on an official mission to Brazil, either permanent or temporary, without diplomatic status.
• The request must be done by Note Verbale from the government or organization that the applicant will be representing.
• The visa will be issued for the duration of the mission.
• Diplomatic and official visas are free of charge.
• For stays over 90 days, holders of this type of visa must register with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs within 30 days of entry in the country and submit a copy of the visa application form provided by this Consulate.
Length of stay in Brazil
Up to 2 years. On a reciprocity basis, this visa may be issued for a longer period, if specified in the Note Verbale.
In the case of an International Organization employee, the Note Verbale must be accompanied by a laissez-passer from the International Organization. If the employee does not have a laissez-passer, the International Organization needs to justify the reason why the foreigner is travelling with the passport of his nationality.
