Foreign Trade Technical Assistant (1 vacancy)
The Selection Committee appointed by the Ambassador of Brazil in New Delhi, in exercise of its powers, and in accordance with Decree 1.570 of 21 June 1995, Ministerial Decree (Ministry of External Relations) of 12 September 1995, and Interministerial Decree 1.305 of 17 August 2018, informs of the opening of a selection process to fill one vacancy for the position of Foreign Trade Technical Assistant (AST), in the following terms:
1. DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.1. The AST shall answer to the Head of the Trade and Investment Promotion Sector (SECOM) of the Embassy of Brazil in New Delhi.
1.2. The AST’s duties in support of SECOM shall include, but not be limited to:
- Phone calls and emails;
- Scheduling meetings and organizing the agenda;
- Searching, collecting and compiling relevant information;
- Interpretation and translation;
- Contacting government authorities and private sector actors;
- Supporting actions related to investments, trade promotion and technical cooperation;
- Organizing events, meetings and missions;
- Supporting Brazilian delegations and Brazilian authorities in India;
- Preparing studies and presentations on relevant technical issues.
1.3. The candidate shall be able to meet the following specific requirements:
a) Qualifications
i. Bachelor/Undergraduate degree or equivalent in Economics, Foreign Trade, Investment or other fields relevant to SECOM activities is essential;
ii. Fluency in written and spoken English and Hindi is essential;
iii. Fluency in Portuguese is highly desirable. Fluency in Spanish is also desirable;
ii. Previous experience working in an office environment is desirable;
iii. Masters or Ph.D. degree in relevant fields is desirable;
b) Skills
i. Interest in and technical knowledge of foreign trade;
ii. Familiarity with Indian customs;
iii. Ability to draft formal official correspondence and other documents;
iv. Computer skills, including adequate operation of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
Outlook, PowerPoint);
v. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment;
vi. Good organizational skills, initiative, flexibility, adaptability and
resourcefulness;
vii. Commitment to continued learning and improvement;
viii. Upon proper instruction, ability to operate the Brazilian platform “Invest & Export Brasil”;
ix. Ability to perform ‘browser operations’, FTP, file transfer and remote access to information sources.
2. REMUNERATION AND WORKING CONDITIONS
2.1 Gross monthly remuneration will be 60.000.00 (sixty thousand Indian rupees). Once the contract comes into effect, the Embassy will deduct the employee’s due tax, as determined by law.
2.2. Employment conditions, including social security and tax arrangements, will be regulated by the Indian Law;
2.3 The employment contract will have a fixed term of one (1) year, renewable upon mutual agreement. There will be a single remunerated probation period of six (6) months;
2.4. Working hours: full time, 44 hours/week;
2.5. 13th salary every calendar year and medical insurance for the employee and immediate family, according to contractual conditions and provisions.
3. SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION
3.1 To apply, the candidates must send digitized copies of all mandatory documents listed under item 3.3 via email to trade.newdelhi@itamaraty.gov.br;and admin.newdelhi@itamaraty.gov.br, with the subject heading ‘Selection Process 03/2023 – application’ followed by the name of the applicant. Only applications with a full set of required documents will be accepted.
3.2 Applications period: from 17th October 2023 to 17th November 2023.
Mandatory documents for the application:
- A valid identity document.
- For non-Indian applicants, including Brazilian nationals, proof of the right to reside in India permanently and legal entitlement to take full-time paid employment for an undetermined length of time, within the terms of the law1.
- Fully completed application form (available on the Embassy website).
- A signed Statement confirming the understanding that the vacancy does not constitute a position within the Brazilian civil or public service (available on the Embassy website).
- Updated Curriculum Vitae.
- Two recommendation letters from former employers.
- A certificate to provide evidence that the applicant completed a higher education degree.
- Copy of the Aadhar and PAN cards.
- Brazilian nationals applying for the vacancy (whether, or not they hold any other nationality), must present the following documents (In accordance with the Decree 1570/1995, art. 10, item VII, § 2º):
a) A valid Brazilian Passport.
b) Certificate of Voting Compliance Record2
c) Certificate of military service enrolment or discharge from military service for Brazilian male applicants under the age of 45.
d) A signed statement confirming that the applicant does not hold any public post or employment in Brazil (the statement is available on the Embassy website).
3.3 Optional documents:
- A cover letter.
- Certification of language competence at proficiency level in English.
- Certification of user competence for the Microsoft Office and Windows suite.
- Any other documents attesting relevant academic and professional qualifications.
1 The proof of the right to reside in the India permanently, and legal entitlement to take full-time paid employment must be complied with during the duration of the contract of employment, as the Embassy of Brazil does not sponsor visa application in the India, neither does it get involved with immigration matters.

4. THE EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT REGIME
4.1. The current selection process does not constitute a civil service entry exam and the position of AST does fall into the category of either Brazilian civil service or of any public service.
4.2. The employment conditions along with social security and tax arrangements to be offered to the successful applicant fully comply with the Law of the India.
4.3. The contract of employment is valid for one year, which can be renewed for another equal period if both parties agree. There will be a single remunerated probationary period of six months.
4.4. The working hours are forty hours a week. The working hours may require the employee to be on duty on a rotation schedule, or to accept special requests to work when necessary, on an overtime basis.
5. THE SELECTION PROCESS
5.1 The selection process will be carried out in three phases:
a) Evaluation of the CV and submitted documents. Selected candidates will be contacted and invited to attend the second phase;
b) A written test in English, Hindi and Portuguese, in which the specific knowledge of the candidate in the area of agri-business, foreign trade, technical cooperation and trade promotion will be evaluated, as well as the level of language proficiency in the languages (English, Hindi and Portuguese);
c) An interview for a broader evaluation of the candidate's skills. Only candidates shortlisted on the second phase will be interviewed, on a date and venue to be announced;
5.2 The applicant’s final evaluation will be the sum of the points pertaining to the CV analysis, the written test, and the interview.
5.3 The shortlisted applicants for the interview must submit at that time all of the original documents (or authenticated photocopies), along with respective photocopies of all documents corroborating the requirements set out in this announcement, plus the application form, and the signed statement listed on point 3.2 ‘ix’. Only the photocopies of the documents will be retained in the Embassy files; all original documents or authenticated photocopies will be only used to verify the photocopies and will be returned to the applicants. No photocopying will be available at the Embassy. Originals without its corresponding photocopy will be accepted.
5.4 For all phases of the selection process, the shortlisted applicants are requested to arrive 15 minutes before the set start time.
6. REQUEST TO VIEW TESTS AND APPEAL SUBMISSION
6.1 The applicant will be able to submit an appeal, which, however, does have the effect of suspending the results of the tests in accordance with the schedule attached to this vacancy announcement. The deadline for submitting an appeal is of 48 hours after the publication of the provisional results, which must be submitted to the Selection Committee via the email address trade.newdelhi@itamaraty.gov.br with the following subject heading: Selection Process 03/2023 – appeal submission’, followed by the name of the applicant.
6.2 No appeal or review request submitted either outside the deadline or in a different format, as set out in this announcement, will be accepted.
6.3 The final decision of the Selection Committee about any appeal will be definitive.
7. RESULTS
7.1 The final result of the selection process is expected to be published on the website of the Embassy of Brazil by 17th December 2023 as per the Embassy´s convenience and priority.
7.2 The approved applicant, on accepting the job, must present himself/herself to the Administration Section of the Embassy on the agreed date to sign the contract of employment and to start professional activities.
7.3 The current selection process will be valid for a period of one year from the date of the publication of the results. The approved applicant, in accordance with their performance, may be called to fill in another vacancy in the same job category should it arise during that time, be it either permanent or temporary.
7.4 The approved applicant must at that time submit a PCC, issued within the last three months from the date of commencement.
8. GENERAL RULES
8.1 Applicants must be at least 21 years of age;
8.2 The application for the vacancy implies that the applicant knows and accepts all the terms and deadlines established in this announcement. An applicant who makes a false statement, or who cannot fulfill the required criteria, may have their application withdrawn at any time.
8.3 The applicant who fails to be present at work on the stipulated date, without proper justification, will forfeit the employment to another approved candidate.
8.4 The Embassy will not accept applications sent by mail/courier, or after the submission deadline as detailed above.
8.5 Applicants shall not claim not to have been aware of the details of this announcement.
8.6 Conditional applications will not be accepted. Only applications presented with the full set of documents will be considered.
8.7 Any omissions will be resolved by the Embassy of Brazil in New Delhi.
