New date for the resumption of visit visa requirements for nationals of Australia, Canada and the United States
Decree No. 11.515, of May 2, 2023, had established that, as of October 1, Brazil would resume the requirement for short-stay visas for nationals of Australia, Canada, the United States and Japan.
As announced last August, the Brazilian government reached an agreement with Japan to reciprocally exempt short-stay visitors from the visa requirement.
As a result, it was necessary to make adjustments to the bidding process for hiring the company that will offer electronic visa services for nationals of those three countries, as part of the implementation of Decree 11.515.
For this reason, with the publication yesterday, September 5, 2023, of Decree No. 11.692, the new date for resuming the requirement for short-stay visas for nationals of Australia, Canada and the United States was set for January 10, 2024. The change will also allow for a longer period of testing prior to the start of the requirement.
In the interests of Brazilian citizens, the government will be ready to negotiate visa waiver agreements with the three aforementioned countries based on the principles of reciprocity and equality between states.
