How long does it take to process a Visa?
The application process for a Brazilian Visa has different stages. Each of them takes time, so it is recommended to start the application process at least 30 days before the intended date of travel. There is no fast track nor emergency pathway to obtain a Visa.
ONLINE APPLICATION
This is the first step of the process, when the applicant sends the requirement via the e-consular system. Once the request has been received and validated by the Consular Section, the applicant will be able to schedule an appointment for the interview on the next available date. This step normally takes a few days, if the application is sent correctly, with all required documents.
INTERVIEW
This is the second step of the process, when the applicant comes to the Embassy with all his original documents, on the scheduled date, to be interviewed. If the applicant resides in Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia or Uganda, it is possible to send the documents through a courier service, such as DHL or Fedex, as long as it is previously arranged by e-mail to consular.nairobi@itamaraty.gov.br. In specific cases, the applicant may be required to appear for an in-person interview even after sending the documents by courier service.
ANALYSIS
This is the third and final step of the process, when the Consular Section verifies all submitted documents. In certain cases, the applicant may be asked to present additional documents. This step usually takes 5 business days, but some particular cases or specific types of Visas might take much longer.
IMPORTANT
The deadlines mentioned above are for reference only. In order to make sure your Visa application is processed in due time, follow these simple tips:
1. Know which type of Visa to apply for and it's requirements, before starting the process.
2. Make sure you submit the correct documents when making the appointment through the e-consular system.
3. Make sure your photo is acceptable and you have paid the correct fee for your type of Visa.
4. Bring all your original documents for the interview and provide the consular attendant with accurate information.
