Seminar: Financing the Energy Transition in Brazil
London – The Embassy of Brazil in London is excited to announce its forthcoming seminar "Financing the Energy Transition in Brazil", scheduled for Tuesday, 26 September 2023. The seminar will be followed by a networking lunch.
Promoting Green Sustainable Finance
In line with Brazil's long-standing commitment to sustainability, the Embassy of Brazil is proud to present the "Financing the Energy Transition in Brazil" seminar, a key gathering that brings together policymakers, experts and entrepreneurs in the field of energy. The event aims at exploring the prospects of energy transition in Brazil and fostering investment opportunities in the country.
The seminar will feature three panels, focusing on policy issues, regulatory advancements, investment prospects and financial instruments. It will also shed light on sustainable energy practices and the potential for business collaborations between the United Kingdom and Brazil in the context of energy transition.
The seminar will commence with opening remarks by the Ambassador of Brazil to the United Kingdom, HE Antonio Patriota, followed by a keynote address from the Rt Hon Graham Stuart MP, Minister of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.
Key Highlights
Sovereign Sustainable Bond Framework: Brazil has recently announced a Sovereign Sustainable Bond Framework that is poised to contribute to financing green, social and energy transition projects. The mechanism adds to Brazil’s green finance instruments and, with regards to energy transition, promises to spark innovation and enhance private sector engagement in energy transition.
BNDES Green Finance: In 2020, the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) allocated 40% of loans to projects related to renewable energy-related projects, aligning with global climate objectives.
Green Bonds: Brazil boasts a thriving green bonds market, with 90 bonds issued, collectively valued at USD 11 billion.
Energy Mix: Brazil has a diverse electricity generation matrix, comprising 14% from fossil fuels, 2.5% from nuclear power, 83.4% from clean sources, which include hydropower (64%), as well as wind, biomass, and solar power.
