GENERAL INFORMATION
1. The purpose of the trip and the intended length of stay determine which visa will be required under Brazilian immigration law. There are two main types of visas:
- Visitor Visas (VIVIS)
- Temporary Visas (VITEM)
2. As shown in the table of contents below, a VIVIS applies to a range of travel purposes for maximum stays of up to 90 days. For some of these purposes, if the intended stay exceeds 90 days, a VITEM must be requested. Temporary Visas are broken down into sub-categories (VITEM I to VITEM XIII), according to specific travel purposes and lengths of stay.
3. VITEM holders must register with the Federal Police within 90 days from first entry. Upon registration, the individual will have to present a document containing both parents’ full names (e.g. full birth certificate), which must be duly legalised/apostilled by the competent authority in the issuing country and subsequently translated into Portuguese by a sworn translator (tradutor juramentado) in Brazil. Slovenian documents are legalised by the Ministry of Justice or the District Courts.
4. Passports must be valid for the entire period the individual intends to remain in Brazil. No minimum passport validity is required.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A VISA:
1. Read carefully the instructions about the adequate type of visa
2. Make sure that you have all the necessary documents. If in doubt about which visa you need, please send an e-mail to consular.liubliana@itamaraty.gov.br.
3. Fill out the online visa application form. If necessary, when you open the link, click on "Continue to this web site".
4. Print the "Visa Form Delivery Receipt", paste the photo and sign it.
5. Book your consular appointment and wait for the confirmation.
6. On the day of the appointment, bring the following documents:
a) Passport (with at least 2 unused pages);
b) All the mandatory required documentation, in originals, according to the type of visa;
c) The Visa Form Delivery Receipt, signed by the applicant and with a photo. Make sure your photo is in compliance with the regulations;
d) The consular fee payment receipt (check consular fees and payment instructions here)
Please note:
- Be diligent and plan ahead. Some VISAS may require additional procedures and consultations, which will, therefore, increase the processing time.
- The Consular Authority may require additional information/documentation or request a personal consular interview with the applicant at any stage of the process.
- Make sure you have uploaded all requested documents, photo and signature (Visa Form Delivery Receipt).
- Applications whose photo does not comply with the requirements will be returned without processing.
- Applications without the mandatory documents will be returned without processing.
DO I NEED A VISA FOR BRAZIL?
Brazil's visa policy is based upon reciprocity (for instance, Slovenian citizens are submitted to the same rules imposed to Brazilian citizens applying for Slovenian visas).
Brazil also has visa waiver agreements with certain countries (for instance, Slovenian citizens are exempt from getting a visa to travel as tourists or for business purposes for up to 90 days within a 180 day period).
For the visa waivers listed below to be in effect, you must be traveling with a passport issued by the country with which Brazil has a visa waiver agreement. For more information, please consult the visa chart.
If your Brazilian visa is still valid and your passport expires, you can get a new passport (from the authorities of your country) and carry both the new (valid) passport and the old one (with the visa) when you travel to Brazil.
IMPORTANT: TOURISTS FROM THE UNITED STATES, CANADA AND AUSTRALIA Effective January 10th, 2024, nationals of the United States, Canada and Australia, even if residing in other countries, will be able to apply for a visa electronically (e-Visa) through the website https://brazil.vfsevisa.com /, quickly and easily, with a final cost of US$ 80.90. The e-Visa does not require the interested party to physically visit a Brazilian consulate, what offers a high degree of practicality for the applicant. The electronic visas will grant multiple entries and have the same duration as the regular ones. |
