Academic research, Teaching or Extension (VITEM I)

A) Foreign citizens travelling to Brazil, for stays over 90 days, WITHOUT EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT IN BRAZIL, as follows:


RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
CASE I	as a scientist or researcher beneficiary of scholarship sponsored by foundations that support institutions of higher education and of scientific and technological research, public or private, to carry out research in Brazilian institution of higher education, public or private, recognized by the Ministry of Education or by other Brazilian technical-scientific institutions recognized by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC), according to art. 14 of Decree 98.830 of 1990 (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 2, I)
CASE II	as a scientist or researcher beneficiary of a scholarship sponsored by the Brazilian Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), by the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep), and other public foundations of support to the research (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 2, II)
CASE III	as a scientist, researcher or professional traveling to Brazil under an international agreement, recognized by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 2, III)
CASE IV	as a scientist or researcher, without employment contract in Brazil, to participate in partnerships, technological extension, provision of services, research projects and international networks in the field of science, technology and innovation or technological extension, established between foreign companies, research and development centers of foreign companies, foreign research and teaching centers with: a) Brazilian company; b) incubator of Brazilian company; c) Science, technology and innovation Institution (STI); d) Nucleus of Technological Innovation; e) support foundation; f) technology park; g) technological pole; and (h) public and private educational and research institutions (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 2, IV)
CASE V	as a scientist, researcher or professional traveling to Brazil to conduct researches not regulated by the Decree 98.830 of 1990 (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 2, V)

TEACHING OR ACADEMIC EXTENSION
CASE VI	for purposes of teaching or academic extension, without employment contract in Brazil, when financially maintained by an institution of his/her country of origin or residence, under an interinstitutional agreement or similar instruments celebrated between a Brazilian institution of higher education and a foreign institution of higher education or research (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 3, I)
CASE VII	for purposes of teaching or academic extension, as beneficiary of scholarship for research purposes and / or study granted by a Brazilian institution of higher education, public or private, recognized by the Ministry of Education (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 3, II)

Exclusion: For research, teaching or academic extension activities of up to 90 days, without employment contract in Brazil, please apply for a VIVIS.

B) Foreign citizens travelling to Brazil, WITH EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT IN BRAZIL, as follows:


RESEARCH, TEACHING OR ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
for research, teaching or academic extension activities, with employment contract in Brazil (RN 24/2018 CNIg). In this case, the application procedure is initiated in Brazil by the Brazilian sponsoring company with the submission of the pertinent application and supporting documents to the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security (“Ministério da Justiça e Segurança Pública – MJSP”). Once authorization has been granted and subsequently received by the Embassy, the applicant may submit the appropriate documentation for issuance of the visa.

Temporary Visas are issued for up to 1 year and the residence period is determined by the Federal Police upon registration in Brazil.

Those granted with a residence permit for more than 1 year may continue to enter Brazil throughout their temporary residence period with a valid passport and a Brazilian National Migratory Registration Card - CRMN (previously, National Foreign Registration - RNE).

Holders of any Temporary Visa must register with the Federal Police in Brazil within 90 days from first arrival in the country. Applicants will receive a Visa Application Form from the Embassy upon the issuance of the visa, which must be presented for such registration.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

Documentation		Comments
1	Visa application form	Fill out the on-line visa application form on https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br. When you open the link, press on the message "CONTINUE TO THIS WEB SITE". Print the ¨Visa Form Delivery Receipt¨, paste a PASSPORT SIZE COLOR photograph (3 x 4 cm) over WHITE background (snapshots and computer pictures are not accepted) and SIGN it. It is very important to state the parents' full names, as displayed in your birth/marriage certificate. Please note: the Consular Section will only accept applications in which the required documents on this table have been uploaded to the form.
2	Applicant’s valid passport	Must have at least two blank pages. Please note that pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes.
3	Birth certificate	Apostilled Birth certificate, clearly stating parents' full names. Attention: Upon registration with the Federal Police (DPMAF) in Brazil, the foreign national must present a birth (or marriage) certificate containing parents' full names, which must be duly legalized/apostilled by the competent authority in the issuing country and subsequently translated by a sworn translator (“tradutor juramentado”) in Brazil.
4	Itinerary	Letter stating the expected arrival and departure dates in/from Brazil
5	Police check (applicants aged 18 years old or over)	Certificate of Criminal Record (for applicants over 18 years);
6	Visa Fee	The fee for the visa issuance is € 105 Payment for consular services is received through bank transfers or deposits and cash is no longer accepted. The applicant must present proof of payment at the time of attendance. The transfer must be arranged in advance and the receipt must be issued only after payment has been confirmed by the bank. Transfers will not be allowed during the service. Cell phone screenshots and receipts that show the status “in process” (v obdelavi) will not be accepted. In the field “Payment details” (namen plačila), enter the name of the applicant and the service required. Examples: John Doe – passport; José das Couves – marriage registration; Jana Vzorec – visa. BIC: LJBASI2X We inform you that the closest NLB bank agency is located at Trg republike 2, Ljubljana (in the building beside the Embassy's building).
ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS BASED ON THE PURPOSE OF THE VISIT TO BRAZIL:
7	CASE I (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 2, I)	a) Letter from the issuing Brazilian educational institution or support foundation confirming the grant; and b) Original Term of Commitment, signed by the applicant, pursuant to the Annex of Normative Resolution No. 27/2018
8	CASE II (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 2, II)	a) Letter from the issuing Brazilian educational institution or support foundation confirming the grant; and b) Original Term of Commitment, signed by the applicant, pursuant to the Annex of Normative Resolution No. 27/2018
9	CASE III (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 2, III)	a) Copy of the international agreement, memorandum of understanding, additional protocol or equivalent document, containing express mention of the applicant going to Brazil; b) Document proving applicant's professional experience / qualification compatible with the activities to be performed in Brazil; and c) Invitation letter from the Brazilian sponsoring organization mentioning the agreement and defining the activities to be performed, duration and conditions of stay in Brazil, as well as confirming that the recipient will not receive any payment from a Brazilian source, except from daily allowances, reimbursement of travel expenses, pro labore or prizes from science, technology or innovation contests.
10	CASE IV (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 2, IV)	a) Copy of the "Portaria" (Ordinance) from the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology Innovation and Communication (MCTIC), published in the Brazilian Official Gazette (Diário Oficial da União), authorizing the conduction of such research activities and the applicant's participation; and b) Original Term of Commitment, signed by the applicant, pursuant to the Annex of Normative Resolution No. 27/2018
11	CASE VII (RN 27/2018 CNIg, Art. 3, II)	a) Letter from the issuing Brazilian educational institution or support foundation confirming the grant; and b) Original Term of Commitment, signed by the applicant, pursuant to the Annex of Normative Resolution No. 27/2018

Important:

The requirements are not all-inclusive. When processing a visa submission, the Embassy may request additional information/documentation.

Remember that a visa to travel to Brazil is NOT YOUR RIGHT, and the Consular Authority reserves the right to request for additional documents not mentioned above or call for an interview, at date and time specified by the Consular Authority.

Please note that processing time may be extended in times of heavy workload or due to unforeseen circumstances.

Registration with the Federal Police (DPMAF) within 90 days of arrival in Brazil. For this purpose, it is mandatory to present the VISA APPLICATION FORM (which is delivered by the Consular Section together with the passport) upon entry.
IMPORTANT: Registration / Federal Police -> Upon registration, the foreign national must present a document containing both parents' full names (full birth or marriage certificate), which must be duly legalized/apostilled by the competent authority in the issuing country and subsequently translated by a sworn translator (“tradutor juramentado”) in Brazil.
