HOW TO APPLY FOR A VISIT VISA TO BRAZIL
VIVIS - Visit Visa:
The VIVIS is the visa for those that want to go to Brazil for purposes of tourism or business.
Fulfilling the documentation requirements for the Visit Visa does not guarantee its issuance. If the consular authority assesses that the purpose of the trip is not compatible with one of the purposes of the VIVIS, it will not be granted.
Travelers with a valid Malaysian passport are exempt from VIVIS for stays of up to 90 days each 12-month-period.
Australian, Canadian, and US citizens only: Starting from April 10th, 2025, nationals from these countries will require a Visit Visa to enter Brazil for tourism or business purposes. Citizens from these countries have the option to apply for an e-Visa instead of the regular Visit Visa. For the application process, visit: https://brazil.vfsevisa.com/
PROCEDURE:
A) Fill the online visa form available at https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br/ (click on the flags for other languages). When you access the website, you may get the message "untrusted connection". This is because the security certificate issued may not have been yet recognized by your browser. Choose the option to continue with the untrusted certificate. It is safe.
B) After filling in the form, upload all necessary documents (see below) through the system, including photo, passport and signature. All visa requests must have the necessary documents uploaded through the system. In case your files exceed the system's capacity, please do try to produce smaller files. Visa requests without uploaded documents will not be accepted.
C) Once the receipt is generated, print, sign and attach a photo to it.
D) The printed receipt plus all requested original documents must then be presented at the Embassy, either in person or by mail. Anyone can present the documents at the Embassy on the applicant's behalf. The applicant will then be informed of the corresponding fee and how to make its payment to the Embassy.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
VIVIS applications must be accompanied by the following documents at the time the visa application is submitted:
A) Applicant's Passport: original, valid, with at least two blank visa pages.
B) Visa Application Form: as instructed above, signed and with the photo attached on the appropriate box.
C) Photograph: one recent (taken less than six months ago) studio passport photo of the applicant in color with a white background. The photo cannot be the same of the applicant's passport or other visas. Snapshots, photocopies, and computer pictures are not accepted. The photo should also follow ICAO photo standards (https://www.icao.int/Security/mrtd/Downloads/technical%20reports/annex_A-photograph_guidelines.pdf). Please glue the photo onto the visa application receipt page.
D) Flight ticket: flight ticket reservation or letter from a travel agent under applicant’s name, with complete flight details and arrival/departure dates. We strongly recommend you do not purchase your travel tickets or pay for reservations before having your application processed by the Embassy.
E) Proof of means of support during the applicant’s stay in Brazil: applicant's own recent bank statements in Malaysia (last three months from the visa submission date). Please bring the originals of these documents, with bank stamps and bank officer's signature.
F) Copy of hotel booking: if the applicant is going to stay with a host (friend/family) in Brazil, the host must sign a letter, notarize his/her signature at a Brazilian notary, and attach a copy of his/her Brazilian ID. The host should write down all his/her contact information, including address, phone number, and e-mail address.
G) Proof of legal stay in Malaysia for minimum 12 months stay, and valid Malaysian visa.
H) Travel itinerary: a detailed and complete plan for the whole journey to Brazil.
I) Minors: birth certificate. Also, both parents must sign before the consular authority the visa application form and a declaration authorizing the minor to apply for the visa and travel to Brazil. If one of the parents cannot come to the Embassy to sign both the form and the declaration, his/her signature will have to be authenticated by a local notary public on both documents.
The Embassy will inform the applicant directly by email if additional documents or an interview are needed before a decision can be made on the visa application.
Documents issued by countries other than Brazil, Malaysia, or Brunei must bear the apostille of said country (in case they are part of the Apostille Convention) or be legalized by the Brazilian foreign mission in that country.
Submitting an application does NOT guarantee the issuance of the visa. The visa application processing will only commence after the Embassy confirms that the corresponding visa fee has been effectively credited to its bank account. Nevertheless, the visa fee is not reimbursed if the visa application is refused.
Regardless of whether the visa is issued or not, only the passport will be returned to the applicant. All other documentation must remain filed with the application at the Embassy.
