Visit Visa (Vivis)
A) General rules and Eligibility
Foreign citizens traveling to Brazil for one of the purposes below must have a ‘Visit Visa’:
– Tourism;
– Visiting family and/or friends;
– Business in general, including meetings to discuss trade and investment. If the trip involves the provision of technical assistance, installation, maintenance or repair services, a Work Visa (Vitem V – RN/3) is mandatory;
– Attend a workshop, trade/industrial fair, conference, lectures or seminar as a participant or exhibitor;
– Transit on Brazilian airports to other countries;
– Media coverage, photographers, filming crews (up to 90 days);
– Study, research, scientific cooperation, academic internship (up to 90 days);
– Unpaid participation in athletic or artistic event or competition (up to 90 days);
– Health treatment (up to 90 days);
– Voluntary work with accredited non-profit organization (up to 90 days);
– Foreign minor that has been adopted by a Brazilian national or a permanent resident in Brazil;
– Adoption of a Brazilian child;
– Permanent resident older than 60 years and/or with special needs bearing an expired Registro Nacional Migratório (RMN; antigo RNE) card;
– Foreigner bearing a Protocolo de Registro ou Prorrogação de Prazo de Estada or Protocolo de Pedido de Permanência no Brasil.

For holders of Indonesian passport, visiting Brazil for one of the above reasons, there is a visa exemption for a period not exceeding thirty (30) days, provided that they will not seek any employment in Brazil. For trips with more than 30 days, citizens of Indonesia still need a valid visa to enter Brazil.

Important! Paid or unpaid employment of bearers of a visit visa in Brazil is strictly prohibited.
Attention! Until April 9, 2025, for citizens of Australia, Canada, and the United States of America, visiting Brazil as tourists or on business, there is a visa exemption for a period not exceeding ninety (90) days, provided that he/she will not seek any employment in Brazil. Beginning on April 10, 2025, a visa will be required for visitors from those countries. The electronic application must be placed at the address: https://brazil.vfsevisa.com/. No visit to the Embassy is necessary.
B) Lenght of stay in Brazil
Period: up to 90 days;
Extensions (once in Brazil only): up to a further 90 days, making up a maximum of six months in any twelve-month period. At least two weeks before expiration of the first granted period, bearers of a visit visa may apply for a single extension of an additional 90 days, granted at the discretion of the Brazilian Immigration Authority.
Those intending to extend their stay should apply for this extension at our Federal Police (Polícia Federal) based in the capital of the state where residing, at least two weeks prior to the expiration of the current visa. Please note that extensions are not valid for multiple entries.
* Nationals of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands may remain in the country for a maximum period of 90 days (not extendable) per period of 180 days, from first entry.
C) Required documents
1) Applicant’s passport, valid for no less than 6 months, with at least two blank pages. Please note that pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes. If you have been to Brazil before, make sure to bring your used visa to our Embassy.
2) One recent photo, 3 x 4cm, in color, front view, white background and taken within 6 (six) months. Low quality photos will not be accepted. Please click here for photo specifications.
3) One visa application form per applicant, completely filled out online, printed and signed by the passport holder or his/her parents/guardians (parents must sign for minors under 18 years old). The application form is found at https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br(you will need to print only the receipt page with the bar code, sign it and glue the photo).
4) Print out of itinerary of round trip ticket, ticket reservation or a statement from a travel agency, addressed to the Embassy of Brazil in Jakarta, containing the name of passenger, the confirmed itinerary, flight numbers and arrival/departure dates.
5) Cover letter, signed by the applicant, which describes the intended itinerary in Brazil, including, but not limited to, cities to be visited and activities to be done.
6) For minors (under 18 years) a notarized Authorization for Brazilian Visa Issuance for Minors, signed by both parents or legal guardians (in which case legal proof of guardianship is required). Such authorization must be accompanied by a notarized copy of the child’s Birth Certificate.
I – Tourists and visiting family / friends
In addition to the common documents, it is necessary to present:
1) Proof of financial means of support during the applicant’s stay in Brazil. Latest three months’ bank statement or latest three months' pay slips, are accepted as proof. Please bring original document and a copy.
2) Original proof of an employment contract/work. If student, the proof of work should be replaced by a proof of school or university enrollment.
3) When applicable (visiting relatives / friends who reside in Brazil), presentation of an invitation letter (written in English or Portuguese) from a Brazilian citizen, or foreigner with residence permit in Brazil, with a copy of his/her identification, assuring the responsibility for housing and related expenses during the guest's stay in Brazil, together with a proof of financial means of the host, or print out of hotel reservation in Brazil.
II – Business (including those attending a workshop, trade/industrial fair, conference or seminar as a participant or exhibitor)
In addition to the common documents, it is necessary to present:
1) Original letter from employer or institution to which the applicant is linked, written in English or in Portuguese, printed on letterhead paper and stating:
- name, address and telephone of the Indonesian company;
- name and title of senior manager/company owner who signed the letter;
- name and title of employee (visa applicant) being sent to Brazil;
- purpose and intended length of stay in Brazil. Please take good notice that letters that simply state that someone is being sent to Brazil "on business" and do not specify what kind of activities will be performed in Brazil do not fulfill this requirement.
- contacts to be maintained by the applicant in Brazil (please state name of company in Brazil, contact person's name, title, address, telephone number and e-mail).
- company should state if it takes full financial responsibility for the applicant while in the country.
2) Letter of invitation from Brazilian company or institution (when applicable).
III – Transit
No extra documents are necessary.
According to Brazilian immigration laws, international passengers transiting through Brazil with a single airline ticket even if it includes multiple airlines and multi-stop flights, do not need a visit visa for transit.
This rule only applies to international passengers who booked the entire trip as a single ticket. Even if they are required to disembark in the Brazilian territory for technical or operational stopover, a visit visa is not required.
In this case, international passengers who travels with more than one airline ticket involving different airlines that do not share a codeshare agreement, are required to apply for a visit visa because they will need to clear customs and immigration and leave the international transit area.
Example:
- One ticket for the entire trip from Jakarta to Asuncion with transfers in Dubai and São Paulo – no visa required.
- One trip from Jakarta to São Paulo and another trip from São Paulo to Asuncion booked separately – visa required.
IV – Media coverage, photographers, filming crews (up to 90 days)
In addition to the common documents, it is necessary to present:
1) Original letter from employer or institution to which the applicant is linked, written in English or in Portuguese, printed on letterhead paper and stating:
- name, address and telephone of the Indonesian company;
- name and title of senior manager/company owner who signed the letter;
- name and title of employee (visa applicant) being sent to Brazil;
- purpose (shooting itinerary) and intended length of stay in Brazil;
- contacts to be maintained by the applicant in Brazil (please state name of company in Brazil, contact person's name, title, address, telephone number and e-mail; and
- company should state if it takes full financial responsibility for the applicant while in the country.
2) Authorization from ANCINE (for commercial filming, publicity and documentary only).
In case of commercial filming, publicity and documentary, prior approval of the project is required. The person/company intending to film in Brazil must seek assistance from a Brazilian co-producer, who will apply to the Brazilian National Agency (ANCINE) on his/its behalf for approval.
Once ANCINE's approval to film is granted, the relevant authorization is relayed to the Brazilian Consular Office in the applicant's country of residence, by ANCINE.
Upon receipt of the authorization and presentation of the applicant's passport, this Office will issue the visa, if applicable.

3) Notarized letter from Brazilian co-production company stating that the foreign journalist will only enter indigenous or environmentally protected areas when authorized by the competent authorities (for commercial filming, publicity and documentary only).
V – Participants of conferences, lectures, seminars
In addition to the common documents, it is necessary to present:
1) Proof of financial means of support during the applicant’s stay in Brazil. Latest three months’ bank statement or latest three months' pay slips, are accepted as proof. Please bring original document and a copy.
2) Letter of invitation, written in English or in Portuguese, issued by the Brazilian organizers of the event clearly stating that no compensation will be paid for the performance and/or participation at the event and that no admission fee/entrance tickets will be charged.
VI – Participants of Artistic or Sports events
In addition to the common documents, it is necessary to present:
1) Proof of financial means of support during the applicant’s stay in Brazil. Latest three months’ bank statement or latest three months' pay slips, are accepted as proof. Please bring original document and a copy.
2) Letter of invitation, written in English or in Portuguese, issued by the Brazilian organizers of the event clearly stating that no compensation will be paid for the performance and/or participation at the event and that no admission fee/entrance tickets will be charged.
VII – Attendees of short-term courses (up to 90 days; language courses excluded)
In addition to the common documents, it is necessary to present:
1) Proof of financial means of support during the applicant’s stay in Brazil. Latest three months’ bank statement or latest three months' pay slips, are accepted as proof. Please bring original document and a copy.
2) Certificate of enrollment in the course, written in English or in Portuguese, stating the course’s name, duration and weekly hours. This letter should confirm as well if the course is already fully paid. The signature on this letter must be legalized by a notary public (tabelião) in Brazil (this does not apply for public universities' letter).
VIII – Study, research, scientific cooperation, academic internship (up to 90 days)
In addition to the common documents, it is necessary to present:
1) Proof of financial means of support during the applicant’s stay in Brazil. Latest three months’ bank statement or latest three months' pay slips, are accepted as proof. Please bring original document and a copy.
2) Certificate of enrollment in the course or invitation letter from the Brazilian institution, written in English or in Portuguese, stating the course’s name, duration and weekly hours. This letter should confirm as well if the course is already fully paid (when applicable). The signature on this letter must be legalized by a notary public (tabelião) in Brazil (this does not apply for public universities' letter).
3) Proof that you are currently attending an undergraduate course or certificate of conclusion of studies (in the appropriated level), duly legalized.
4) When applicable, formal commitment instrument signed by the intern, the Philippine institution and the provider of the internship attesting the compatibility of the activities to be performed during your internship and the area of knowledge of your course.
IX – Voluntary work with accredited non-profit organization (up to 90 days)
In addition to the common documents, it is necessary to present:
1) Proof of financial means of support during the applicant’s stay in Brazil. Latest three months’ bank statement or latest three months' pay slips, are accepted as proof. Please bring original document and a copy.
2) Invitation letter from the Brazilian institution. The signature on this letter must be legalized by a notary public (tabelião) in Brazil.
3) Document containing details about the workplace and type of activity the applicant will carry out. The signature on this letter must be legalized by a notary public (tabelião) in Brazil.
X – Holders of the Polícia Federal’s PROTOCOLO
In addition to the common documents, it is necessary to present:
1) Copy of the Polícia Federal’s PROTOCOLO, issued within the past 12 months.
2) Copy of previously granted visa and a copy of the passport page containing the Brazilian immigration authority entry and departure stamps.
3) In case you are a holder of the RNM, a copy of both sides of the document.
XI – Holders of expired Registro Nacional Migratório – RNM (antigo RNE) (60 years of age)
In addition to the common documents, it is necessary to present:
1) Copy of both sides of the RNM (alien registration certificate).
Notes
Consular officers will only receive applications from applicants who are able to comply with all the requirements presented above.
Please notice that this Embassy only accepts visa applications once the applicant has uploaded his/her photograph, signature and other documents through the online form (https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br). All documents must be scanned and attached to the online form. Otherwise, it will not be possible for this Embassy to accept the visa application.
After filling out the online form, it will continue to be mandatory to present these documents for the verification of the consular authority, on the day of attendance at the Embassy. Please bring the originals of these documents, plus a set of ordinary copies.
Consular officers may request additional information or documentation as deemed necessary. Personal interview may also be necessary.
The consular service will not process visas of applicants who are not Indonesian or, if a foreigner, who do not reside in Indonesia for, at least, 12 (twelve) months (proper documentation must be presented to prove the residency for this period).
D) Visa fees

The visa fee must be paid by deposit into the Embassy's consular account at BCA. Payment slips may be obtained at the Embassy, and payment must be preferably made on the day which the service is requested.
E) Lodging your application
Bring the duly completed and signed application receipt and the supporting documentation to our Embassy during public hours.
Applications can be lodged in person or through a third party (relative/friend/visa agent).
This Embassy does not accept visa applications by mail.
F) Processing times
When lodging in person: allow a minimum of 5 working days.
When lodging by a visa service company: allow between 10 to 15 working days.
For groups with more than 10 applications a longer processing time may be required.
Under no circumstances, visas will be issued on the same day.
