Student Visa (Vitem IV)
A) General rules
Foreign citizens traveling to Brazil to attend study courses – including theological, language and technical studies – must have a Student Visa. Please note that to qualify for a student visa the applicant has to attend a minimum of 15 hours of lessons per week.

Attention!
- Foreign nationals attending study courses in Brazil for a period of up to 90 (ninety) days must have a Visit Visa (VIVIS). For holders of Indonesian passport, there is a visa exemption for a period not exceeding thirty (30) days.
- Student visa bearers are prohibited from holding any paid job in Brazil.
B) Length of stay in Brazil
Visas are issued for up to 1 (one) year, counted from the day of issue.
Residence authorization (once in Brazil only) is given by the Federal Police Department (DPMAF), accordingly to the purpose of the stay.
Within 90 (ninety) days of arrival in Brazil, bearers of student visas must register with the Brazilian Immigration authorities (DPMAF) in the place where the applicant intends to take up residence. The applicant should present the copy of the visa application form, provided upon collection of the visa at the Embassy, as well as the other documents listed in the Interministerial Ordinance nº 3 of February 27, 2018 and in the Interministerial Ordinance nº 7 of March 13, 2018.
C) Required documents
1) Applicant’s passport, valid for no less than 6 months, with at least two blank pages. Please note that pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes. Together with the passport please bring one copy of its relevant pages. If you have been to Brazil before, make sure to bring your used visa to our Embassy.
2) One recent photo, 3 x 4 cm, in color, front view, white background and taken within 6 (six) months. Low quality photos will not be accepted. Please click here for photo specifications.
3) One visa application form per applicant, completely filled out online, printed and signed by the passport holder or his/her parents/guardians (parents must sign for minors under 18 years old). The application form is found at https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br (you will need to print only the receipt page with the bar code, sign it and glue the photo).
4) Print out of itinerary of round trip ticket, ticket reservation or a statement from a travel agency, addressed to the Embassy of Brazil in Jakarta, containing the name of passenger, the confirmed itinerary, flight numbers and arrival/departure dates.
5) Valid original police record (Surat Keterangan Catatan Kepolisian), apostilled by the Directorate of Central Authority and International Law of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Direktorat OPHI).
- Applicants who have lived in other/multiple countries within the last 12 months must provide a police record from each of those countries. They must also be duly apostilled or legalized by the respective Brazilian consular authority with jurisdiction over these countries, and translated by a sworn translator, if necessary.
6) Original birth certificate (Akta Kelahiran) issued by the Registry Office (Pencatatan Sipil), apostilled by the Direktorat OPHI. Copies presented without the original must also be apostilled.
7) Proof of means of support during the applicant’s stay in Brazil.For those being financially supported by the parents, a declaration from them will be required, together with a copy of the relevant page of their passports, as well as their latest three months’ bank statement or latest three months' pay slips. Please bring original document and a copy.
8) Original letter from institution to which the applicant is linked, confirming the acceptance of the student and indicating the length of the course. Minimum of 15 hours of lessons per week is required. This letter should confirm as well if the course is already fully paid. The signature on this letter must be legalized by a notary (tabelião) in Brazil (this does not apply for public universities' letter). Letters should be written in English or Portuguese.
9) For minors (under 18 years) a notarized Authorization for Brazilian Visa Issuance for Minors, signed by both parents or legal guardians (in which case legal proof of guardianship is required). Such authorization must be accompanied by a notarized copy of the child’s birth certificate.
Notes
Consular officers will only receive applications from applicants who are able to comply with all the requirements presented above.
Please notice that this Embassy only accepts visa applications once the applicant has uploaded his/her photograph, signature and other documents through the online form (https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br). All documents must be scanned and attached to the online form. Otherwise, it will not be possible for this Embassy to accept the visa application.
After filling out the online form, it will continue to be mandatory to present these documents for the verification of the consular authority, on the day of attendance at the Embassy. Please bring the originals of these documents, plus a set of ordinary copies.
Consular officers may request additional information or documentation as deemed necessary. Personal interview may also be necessary.
The consular service will not process visas of applicants who are not Indonesian or, if a foreigner, who do not reside in Indonesia for, at least, 12 (twelve) months (proper documentation must be presented to prove the residency for this period).
D) Visa fees

The visa fee must be paid by deposit into the Embassy's consular account at BCA. Payment slips may be obtained at the Embassy, and payment must be preferably made on the day which the service is requested.
E) Lodging your application
Bring the duly completed and signed application receipt and the supporting documentation to our Embassy during public hours.
Applications can be lodged in person or through a third party (relative/friend/visa agent).
This Embassy does not accept visa applications by mail.
F) Processing times
When lodging in person: allow a minimum of 5 working days.
When lodging by a visa service company: allow between 10 to 15 working days.
For groups with more than 10 applications a longer processing time may be required.
Under no circumstances, visas will be issued on the same day.
