Missionary Visa (Vitem VII)

A) General rules and Eligibility

Foreign citizens traveling to Brazil as ministers or members of a religious order must have this visa, which in certain cases requires specific authorization from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

* Nationals of Austria, Chile, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Spain, Suriname, The Netherlands, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Kingdom are exempt from this visa for stays up to 90 days.

Within 90 days of entry in Brazil, holders of this type of visa must register at the Federal Police and submit a copy of the visa application form provided by this Consulate.

B) Length of stay in Brazil

Visas are issued for up to 1 (one) year, counted from the day of issue.

Residence authorization (once in Brazil only) is given by the Federal Police Department (DPMAF), accordingly to the purpose of the stay.

Within 90 (ninety) days of arrival in Brazil, bearers of missionary visas must register with the Brazilian Immigration authorities (DPMAF) in the place where the applicant intends to take up residence. The applicant should present the copy of the visa application form, provided upon collection of the visa at the Embassy, as well as the other documents listed in the Interministerial Ordinance nº 3 of February 27, 2018.

C) Required documents

1) Applicant’s passport, valid for no less than 6 months, with at least two blank pages. Please note that pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes. Together with the passport please bring one copy of its relevant pages. If you have been to Brazil before, make sure to bring your used visa to our Embassy.

2) One recent photo, 3 x 4 cm, in color, front view, white background and taken within 6 (six) months. Low quality photos will not be accepted. Please click here for photo specifications.

3) One visa application form per applicant, completely filled out online, printed and signed by the passport holder or his/her parents/guardians (parents must sign for minors under 18 years old). The application form is found at https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br (you will need to print only the receipt page with the bar code, sign it and glue the photo).

4) Valid original police record (Surat Keterangan Catatan Kepolisian), apostilled by the Directorate of Central Authority and International Law of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Direktorat OPHI).

- Applicants who have lived in other/multiple countries within the last 12 months must provide a police record from each of those countries. They must also be duly apostilled or legalized by the respective Brazilian consular authority with jurisdiction over these countries, and translated by a sworn translator, if necessary.

5) Original birth certificate (Akta Kelahiran) issued by the Registry Office (Pencatatan Sipil), apostilled by the Direktorat OPHI. Copies presented without the original must also be apostilled.

6) Curriculum vitae.

7) Original declaration of ordination (or other documents to that effect) or academic records, to certify the applicant’s religious education, being previously certified by a notary public in Indonesia (notaris). If issued in another country, they have to be duly apostilled or legalized by the Brazilian diplomatic representation in that country.

8) Notarized declaration signed by the applicant stating that no activities will be conducted in native indigenous territory, unless authorized by the Brazilian National Indian Foundation (FUNAI – Fundação Nacional do Índio);

9) Certified copy of the Brazilian religious institution’s latest articles of incorporation (Ata de Constituição);

10) Certified copy of document recognizing the legal authority of the religious order’s Principal to act on behalf of the order; and

11) Notarized term of commitment, by which the Brazilian institution takes full financial responsibility for the applicant and dependents’ maintenance and departure from Brazil.

Notes

• Consular officers will only receive applications from applicants who are able to comply with all the requirements presented above.
• Please notice that this Embassy only accepts visa applications once the applicant has uploaded his/her photograph, signature and other documents through the online form (https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br). All documents must be scanned and attached to the online form. Otherwise, it will not be possible for this Embassy to accept the visa application.
• After filling out the online form, it will continue to be mandatory to present these documents for the verification of the consular authority, on the day of attendance at the Embassy. Please bring the originals of these documents, plus a set of ordinary copies.
• Consular officers may request additional information or documentation as deemed necessary. Personal interview may also be necessary.
• Unless presented personally, the consular service will not process visas of applicants who do not reside in its consular jurisdiction, i.e., Indonesia.

D) Visa fees

The visa fee must be paid by deposit into the Embassy's consular account at BCA. Payment slips may be obtained at the Embassy, and payment must be preferably made on the day which the service is requested.

E) Lodging your application

Bring the duly completed and signed application receipt and the supporting documentation to our Embassy during public hours.

Applications can be lodged in person or through an authorized third party (relative/friend/visa agent).

This Embassy does not accept visa applications by mail.

F) Processing times

Applications for missionary visa are subject to prior consultation with the Ministry of External Relations in Brazil and the process time can take up to 3 (three) months.
