Finland is among the ten countries with the best ranking in innovation, education and transparency in the world, which makes the country very attractive for cooperation opportunities with universities, companies and government agencies for example.
Among the areas that Brazil and Finland have in common, communication and information technologies, renewable energy, bioeconomy, mining, pulp and paper can be highlighted. The digitalization of public services in Finland, such as in the areas of health, education, urban transport and public safety, have also caught significant attention from Brazilian public and private sector.
SECTEC Helsinki aims to connect the various agents from Brazil and Finland working in the field of innovation. SECTEC disseminates cooperation opportunities, studies the different areas of economy, periodically brings together the Brazilian scientific diaspora residing in Finland and organizes activities, such as “game jams” and bilateral seminars.
SECTEC Helsinki is part of a larger network of Science, Technology and Innovation Sections (SECTECs) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil. Located in 58 embassies and consulates around the world, SECTECs aim to build relationships and opportunities for cooperation, attract investments, support the internationalization of startups, connect with the Brazilian scientific community abroad, gather intelligence by identifying market trends and technological process routes, in addition to fostering collaboration between Brazilian and foreign innovation environments.
SECTECs also implement the activities of the Innovation Diplomacy Program which seek to break stereotypes linked to the image of Brazil abroad and show a country that produces knowledge, products and services by projecting the potential of Brazil in science, technology and innovation.

Through mapping local innovations and technology studies, SECTEC Helsinki gathers intelligence for Brazilian technology researchers and entrepreneurs to assess synergies and complementarities with the Finnish market, as well as providing information on “soft landing” and connection.

Brazil-Finland Innovation Network
The Brazil-Finland Innovation Network is an initiative, coordinated by SECTEC Helsinki, to connectmembers of the Brazilian Science, Technology and Innovation community in Finland.
The Network aims to strengthen the Brazilian science, technology and innovation community in Finland, identify common interests, support newcomers, and organize professional training events, disseminate innovation projects and facilitate professional and academic contacts.
In the beginning of 2024, SECTEC published the first edition of “Notícias da Rede”, a monthly newsletter that showcases the work of Brazilian researchers, entrepreneurs and technology professionals that participate in the Brazil-Finland Innovation Network. The newsletter also features news, events and opportunities relevant to the group and is written in collaboration with network members.
