Stolen, Lost or Damaged Passport
Important:
Immediately notify the police and the Embassy (or Consulate) of Brazil in the place of the incident, and renew your passport as soon as you become aware that it has occurred.
Attention: Incidents of theft, loss and damage of the Brazilian passport are NOT treated as emergencies by the Embassies and Consulates of Brazil, even when traveling.
The request for a new passport can only be made during regular Embassy opening hours, by prior appointment via the e-consular.
Instructions:
In case of loss, theft or damage of the Brazilian passport, the interested party must:
1) Verify the list of mandatory passport documents, making sure the documentation is complete and in order, i.e. that you are eligible for a new passport.
The list of mandatory documents for a passport and step-by-step instructions on how to proceed are available at:
- Passport - over 18 years old
- Passport - under 18 years old
Note: If any of the mandatory documents is missing to the application, a new passport will not be issued.
2) Register a police report at the police station in the country where the incident has happened.
The police report must be detailed (contain a detailed situation report, mentioning the facts and circumstances of the loss, theft or damage of the previous Brazilian passport), the full name of the interested party, date of birth and the passport number.

Other important information:
To obtain a Brazilian passport, the interested party must present all the mandatory documentation.
If any of the mandatory documents is missing to the application, a new passport will not be issued.
In all cases (loss, theft or damaged passport), a police report issued by the Police of the place where the incident occurred is mandatory.
The new passport, if granted, will have its validity reduced. The consular fee, however, remains unchanged.
Recurrences of loss, theft or damage of the passport will cause further reductions to the validity and may eventually prevent you for obtaining a new passport.
The payment of the consular fee for the passport is done exclusively by bank transfer to the Embassy's account and must be preferably arranged from a bank account in Finland (even if it belongs to friends, relatives or third parties).
Payments made from Finland allow for a new passport to be issued immediately. Payments made from abroad (including from Brazil) need to be processed by the sending and receiving banks, credited and verified in the Embassy's account, which may delay the issuance of the document.
Payment details are informed to the applicant only during the in-person service, once the documents necessary for the service have been duly verified.
