I. Military Enlistment
- General Information:
In the first six months of the year in which they turn 18, every male Brazilian must come in person to the Consular Section to enlist in the Brazilian military service.
Attention: Military enlistment is mandatory, even if it is done out of date, for all male Brazilians, up to 45 years of age.
- Forms of Service:
In-person service only (by appointment).
Attention: The presence of the citizen himself is mandatory. The service cannot be performed by third parties.
- Instructions and Mandatory Documents:
On the day of the appointment, the citizen must come to the Consular Section and present the following original documents:
1) Military Enlistment Form duly completed and signed; (PDF format)
2) Brazilian birth certificate (original or notarized copy done in a cartório, in Brazil);
3) Brazilian passport (or Brazilian identity card) (original or notarized copy done in a cartório, in Brazil;
4) Brazilian Tax Payer Number (CPF) card or identity document with the CPF number

- Consular fee:
The military enlistment and the issuance of the Military Enlistment Certificate (CAM) are free services.
- Processing time:
At the end of the service, the Military Enlistment Certificate (CAM) will be issued.
- Observation:
After enlistment, the Brazilian enlisted person residing abroad must appear once a year, every year, inperson to the Consular Section, for notification of postponement of incorporation. Specific instructions are available in the following section Postponement of Incoporation.

II. Postponement of Incorporation
- General Information:
Once enlisted (even if the enlistment took place in Brazil), the Brazilian citizen residing abroad must attend the Consular Section of the Embassy, once a year, every year, so that the certificate of military enlistment (CAM) can receive a postponement of incorporation.
If it is not possible to appear in person at a consular office to comply with this legal requirement, the enlisted person must regularize his military status in Brazil within the first thirty days after his arrival in the country.
- Forms of Service:

Attention: The presence of the citizen himself is mandatory. The service cannot be performed by third parties.
- Instructions and Mandatory Documents:
On the day of the appointment, the citizen must go to the Consular Section and present the following document:
1) Military Enlistment Certificate (CAM) original.
- Consular Fee:
Postponement of incorporation is a free service.
- Processing Time:
At the end of the service, the Military Enlistment Certificate will receive a stamp and signature from the Brazilian Consular Authority.
- Observation:
Permanent residents can also apply for exemption from incorporation. See the Exemption from Incorporation section below for relevant instructions.
III. Exemption from Incorporation
- General Information:
Enlisted citizens residing abroad may request the Certificate of Exemption from Incorporation (CDI) at any time.
If you are under 28 (twenty-eight) years of age, you will have to prove residency abroad for a period longer than three consecutive months to apply for the CDI.
From the age of 28 (twenty-eight) years old, the declaration of proof of time of residence is waived to apply for CDI (exemption will be by reason of age).
The CDI application will be forwarded to the Directorate of the Military Service (DSM), in Brasília. If the application is approved by the military authorities, the Certificate of Exemption from Incorporation (CDI) will be forwarded to the Consular Section within approximately one year.
Once the exemption is granted, the Brazilian is not anymore obliged to present himself annually for the Postponement of Incorporation in the Military Enlistment Certificate (CAM) (item II above).
Anyone who is exempt from military service due to political, philosophical or religious conviction, or who is unsubmissive or deserter, will not be entitled to the Exemption from Incorporation, before completing forty-five (45) years of age.

- Instructions and Mandatory Documents:
On the day of the appointment, the citizen must come in person to the Consular Section and present the following documents:
1) Exemption from Incorporation Request Form, addressed to the Military Service Directorate (DSM); (PDF format);
2) Declaration of Residence Abroad (PDF format);
3) Military Enlistment Certificate (CAM) original;
4) Brazilian birth certificate or Brazilian marriage certificate (original or notarized copy done in a cartório, in Brazil);
5) Brazilian Tax Payer Number (CPF) card or identity document with the CPF number

6) Other Brazilian documents, if available;
7) For citizens under 28 (twenty-eight) years of age: Proof of residence abroad dated three months prior to enlistment.
This proof can be made by means of: declaration from the university/college, or declaration of work, or bank statement in the name of the enlisted, services bill (telephone, internet, etc).
Attention: Finnish passport, Finnish driver's license and Finnish birth certificate are not valid documents to prove time of residence.
Alternatively, the enlisted citizen may prove residence by means of a specific residence declaration available in the Consular Section.
- Consular fee:
The Exemption from Incorporation is a free service.

Processing Time:
At the end of the service, the application and the relevant documentation will be forwarded to the Directorate of the Military Service (DSM), in Brasília-DF.
If the application is approved by the Military Authorities, the Certificate of Exemption from Incorporation (CDI) will be forwarded to the Consular Section from 3 months to one year from the request.
IV. Exemption Certificates (CDI) Ready for Collection

Attention:
This list is updated as soon as the Certificates sent by the Military Service Directorate are received at the Consular Section.
If your name is not on the list, it is necessary to wait for the analysis of the Exemption and the sending of the CDI by the Military Service Directorate.
If your name is on the list below, make an appointment to collect the finished document at the Consular Section.
On the scheduled day, the person concerned must be present.
Present a valid Brazilian identity document (Brazilian identity card or valid Brazilian passport) to the Consular Section.
