Driving in Brazil
Attention:
This service is not responsibility of the Brazilian consular offices.
Therefore, it cannot be carried out at the Embassies of Brazil.
This page contains information on how to forward your request directly to the competent Brazilian Authority.
Brazilian and foreign citizens have the right to drive during their stay in Brazil, for a maximum period of 180 days, as long as they have a valid foreign driver's license or an international driver's license, which they must present with their sworn translation into Portuguese ( performed in Brazil) and a valid identification document.
In order to be able to drive after the 180-day period, they must pass the physical and mental aptitude exams and undergo a psychological evaluation, as required to obtain the National Driver's License.
See CONTRAN Resolution No. 360/2010, of September 29, 2010, for more information.
Doubts and more information should be requested to the competent body in Brazil (DETRANS of the states of the Federation), through its service channels.
