Visit Visa
ATTENTION: From 10 April 2025, citizens of Australia, Canada and the United States will no longer be able to enter Brazil without a Visit Visa.
(Note: the effective date has been updated after been iniatially scheduled to 1st October 2023 and subsequently postponed)
Eligibility
- Visit Visa is applicable if you are travelling to Brazil for short stays (up to 90 days) with any of the following purposes and no intention of establishing residence :
- Tourism;
- Business activities, including meetings, trade fairs, prospection of commercial opportunities, contract signing, auditing and consulting;
- Study trips, including academic internship, theological and technical studies (as student or teacher);
- Family visit;
- Attend congresses, seminaries or conferences;
- Volunteer work for religious social assistance entities or non-governmental organizations;
- Science, technology or innovation research or cooperation activities, under the umbrella of an international cooperation program with a Brazilian institution (as scientists, professors, researchers or other professionals, employed by a foreign educational or research institution);
- Media coverage and/or film-making;
- Work as flight/ship crew member without an international crew card (for maritime crew, only those holding a Seafarers' Identity Document issued by countries that have ratified ILO's Convention 185 may enter the country for short stays without a Visit Visa);
- Artistic performances and/or competitions (both as an artist or supporting technical staff);
- Sports competitions and/or training camps (both as athletes or supporting technical staff);
- Medical treatment;
- Adoption of a Brazilian child;
- Application for residence in Brazil (for an underage child adopted by a Brazilian citizen or resident);
- Renewal of an expired Brazilian foreigner registration card (for permanent residents over 60 years old);
- Registration or extension of temporary residence in Brazil;
- Reissuance of a lost, stolen or damaged Brazilian foreigner registration card;
- Transit through Brazil, for those who must leave the international transit area (otherwise no visa is required).
- Citizens of the following countries / special administrative regions, holding passports with a minimum validity of 6 months, do not need a visa to enter Brazil for visit purposes and stays of up to 90 days unless otherwise stated:
- Albania, Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belarus, Belgium, Belize, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominica, Dominican Republic (60 days), Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia (30 days), Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan (30 days), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Macedonia, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Moldova, Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, San Marino, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore (30 days), Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Uruguay, Vatican and Venezuela (60 days).
- Please note: Vietnamese citizens need a visa to enter Brazil for visit purposes and stays of up to 90 days
