-
Beginning on April 10, 2024, a visa will be required only for Canadian, American and Australian visitors to Brazil. The application must be placed at the address: https://brazil.vfsevisa.com/. The visa can be granted electronically, with no need to schedule a visit to the Consular Section. If you have any doubts or need any information, feel free to contact VSF through the e-mail account brazilevisa@vfsglobal.com.
-
The passport must be valid for the entire period the foreign citizen intends to remain in Brazil. No minimum passport validity is required.
-
Visas are normally accepted for multiple entries (exceptions apply).
-
The Brazilian Government decides at its own discretion the type of visa to be granted.
- The Embassy may request additional information or documentation, as deemed necessary.
- Holders of Temporary Visas must register at any unit of the Federal Police within 90 days from first entry (exception apply – check visa label). Upon registration, the foreign national must present a document containing both parents’ full names (e.g. full birth or marriage certificate), which must be duly legalised (contain an apostille) by the competent authority in the issuing country and subsequently translated by a sworn translator (“tradutor juramentado”) in Brazil.
- Irish documents that will be used in Brazil must be legalised by the DFA - Department of Foreign Affairs.
- Please read all instructions carefully. If you have any queries, please send an e-mail to visa.dublin@itamaraty.gov.br
Processing times & visa collection
We cannot guarantee visa issuance or visa processing times in advance. If you require a visa, we recommend that you apply well in advance of your intended travel date and do not make non-refundable travel arrangements until you have been issued a visa and are in receipt of your passport.
For most of the cases, it usually takes up to 15 working days to process a visa request, but processing times are impacted each month by changes in application volumes, seasonal peaks, complex cases, and incomplete applications.
As soon as you visa request has been processed, you will be notified by the Consular Section.

Guide to uploading documents:
In order to apply for a visa, foreign nationals need to fill in the online visa application form and print the Visa Request Form Receipt (RER). The Consular Section will only accept applications in which the required documents have been uploaded. See bellow some tips on how to upload the required documentation:
- The current version of the online visa application form performs better in the internet browser Mozilla Firefox.
- When accessing the form, should your browser display a message saying the ‘connection is untrusted’ or not secure, please disregard it – it is safe. Add the exception in order to be able to proceed (‘Add Exception’ > ‘Confirm Security Exception’).
- In order to be able to upload files to the form, you must enable pop-ups on your browser. Go to your browser’s preferences to disable blocked pop-ups.
- When you reach the Upload tab of the form, notice there are ‘choose file’ buttons for both the photo and the signature, but not for the scanned documents. Always make sure your files comply with the specifications below before starting to complete the form.
- Once a document is selected from the drop-down menu, a dialogue box should open for you to select the file location. If pop-ups are blocked, the dialogue box will not open, and you will not be able to select the file you would like to upload. Make sure pop-ups are unblocked.
- As there is limited upload capacity – a maximum of approximately 2Mb – make sure you upload as many files from the list of required documents as possible. Remember to submit all original documents at the Consulate during your interview.
