VITEM XIII - MERCOSUR residents
TEMPORARY VISA XIII - Residence for nationals of countries that adhere to the MERCOSUR Residence Agreement
a) General rules
- Nationals of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay can apply for a temporary residency permit to live in Brazil (Decree 6.975/2009).
- This visa can be extended to the dependants of a citizen from the above named countries, regardless of their nationalities (Normative Resolution No.108/2014).
- Within 30 days of entry in Brazil, holders of this type of visa must register at the Federal Police (click here) and submit a copy of the visa application form provided by this Embassy.
- Holders and dependants of a VITEM XIII holder are allowed to work in Brazil.
b) Length of stay in Brazil
Up to 2 years. Visa holders may apply for a permanent visa 90 days prior to the visa expiry date.
c) Required documents

Visa application form |
Must be filled in online (click here). Please print and bring the Visa Request Form Receipt (RER) to the appointment. It is very important to state the parents’ full names, as displayed in your birth/marriage certificate. For minor children (under 18 years old), the printed RER must be signed by both parents. Please note: the Embassy will only accept applications in which the required documents on this table have been uploaded to the form. |

Police check (applicants aged 18 years old or over) |
Certificates are only valid for 3 months after issuance. Please note: If the applicant has lived in multiple countries within the last 12 months, a police check from each country must be provided. They must also be duly legalised by the respective Brazilian consular authority with jurisdiction over these countries, and translated by a sworn translator, if necessary. Alternatively, the applicant may provide a written declaration, under penalty of perjury of law, signed before a notary public or the visa authority, stating that s/he has no international criminal convictions. |
d) Family reunion
Applicants willing to take their spouse / partner / children / other dependants, please click here to check their eligibility. Dependants may be granted a Family Reunion Visa (VITEM XI), bound to the primary VITEM XIII application, thus subject to the same conditions (e.g. same length of stay etc.). Family applications may be lodged jointly or after the primary applicant’s VITEM XIII has been issued.
