Signature Authentication
Signatures can be authenticated by authenticity or by similarity. Please find below information on each type.
Only signatures of Brazilian citizens or foreign citizens who hold a valid national registry of foreigners card (RNE/RNM) can be certified.
In order to avoid fraud, the service can only be provided when possible to confirm, by means of an identification document with recent photo, that the person requesting the authentication is, in fact, who they say they are. The Embassy reserves the right not to provide the requested service when identification is not possible.
*Be aware! Signature authentication is effective only before Brazilian public and private legal entities and in Brazilian territory.
* All Brazilian citizens and foreigners who obtain residency cards in Brazil must have a CPF number in order to request services at the Embassy. If you don't have a CPF, please click here for more details about how to request one.
Signature authentication by authenticity
The Embassy certifies signatures in person, when requested by the signee him/herself.

Signature authentication by similarity
- This service is available only for those who have previously registered their signature at the Embassy.
- Having requested other consular services does not mean one's signature has been registered. If you are unsure, please email consular.damasco@itamaraty.gov.br to check if your signature has already been registered.
- In some cases, the signature has to be certified by authenticity, which can only be carried out in person (e.g. passport request form of the Federal Police, registry form of the Social Security Service Institute – INSS – and other public institutions). Travel authorisation for minor child, on its turn, can be authenticated by both authenticity and similarity.
- Therefore, it is advisable to check with the document recipient what kind of signature authentication is required.
- This service can be requested by a third person.
