Humanitarian Assistance to Syria
Note No. 68 - Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Brazil
Humanitarian Assistance to Syria
In a humanitarian response to the earthquakes that occurred on 06/02 in different regions of Syria and Turkey, the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, decided that the Brazilian Government will donate 65 water purifiers produced in Brazil with national technology, accompanied by voltaic kits to ensure energy autonomy. The equipment has the capacity to produce, as a whole, 364 thousand liters of pure water per day, enough for the daily supply of at least 18 thousand people. Additionally, the country will send 7 tons of nutritious dehydrated food, equivalent to around 280,000 meals.
The donations will be transported to Syria next week, when they should be available.
Brazil's humanitarian assistance to Syria is coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) through the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), responsible for the Federal Government's humanitarian cooperation, in partnership with other federal agencies that work in a coordinated manner under the Inter-ministerial Working Group on International Humanitarian Cooperation, and it will have the support of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
