Lost or stolen passport
Important information
- The new passport may be requested at any time, and there is no need to wait for the current passport to expire.
- It is recommended that nationals of Brazil enter and leave the country with a Brazilian passport.
- It is the citizen's responsibility to check if their passport is valid. The validity of a passport is never extended.
- All supporting documents issued in Syria must be legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and translated into English, Portuguese, Spanish or French by a sworn translator.
* From January 10, 2024, all Brazilian citizens must have a CPF number in order to request services at the Embassy. If you don't have a CPF, please click here for more details about how to request one.
Required documentation
Please read carefully all instructions regarding documents required for passport applications if you had your previous passport lost or stolen.
The Embassy may request additional documents at its discretion.

One standard-sized passport photo |
The photo must display a full frontal view of the face, with white background, and be no older than 6 months. Click here to check if your photo complies with the regulations. |

Original Brazilian document |
Submit the identity card (RG) or the driving licence (CNH), in addition to: If single: Brazilian birth certificate. If married: Brazilian marriage certificate. Those married abroad who have not registered their marriage in Brazil or at the Brazilian Consulate. If divorced: Brazilian marriage certificate with divorce annotation. If the name has been legally altered due to a reason other than marriage or divorce: Brazilian full birth certificate ("certidão de inteiro teor") or Brazilian full marriage certificate attesting the name change. |

Electoral clearance certificate ("Certidão de quitação eleitoral") |
For citizens aged 18 to 70 years old. The certificate can be obtained from the Superior Electoral Court website (Tribunal Superior Eleitoral - TSE). For further information on electoral matters, click here. |

Original military draft certificate |
Only for male applicants aged 18 to 45 years old. If you do not hold a military draft certificate, click here. |
7 | Individual civil record issued by the Syrian authority |
Only for citizens registered in Syria. |
8 | Family civil record |
Only for citizens who were not born in Brazil |
9 | Birth certificate of the first Brazilian national in the family | If the Brazilian nationality has been obtained by the rights of inheritance, the applicant must provide a copy of the Brazilian birth certificate or naturalization of the first Brazilian citizen in the family. |
10 | CPF |
According to Law 14.534/23, all Brazilian citizens must present a CPF number in order to request public services. If you don't have a CPF, please click here for more details about how to request one. |
In case of loss or theft of a minor's passport, the parents must also submit a Consent for passport to minor children (item 5 in the 'passport for minor children - under 18' table).
