Life certificate
To whom it applies
a. Retired individuals and pensioners of the INSS - National Institute of Social Security (Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social);
b. Retired individuals, reservists and pensioners of Federal civil and military government agencies who need to present a declaration of attendance for the purposes of annual registration in the month of their birthdays;
c. Active civil servants, retired individuals and pensioners of State and Municipal government agencies, for the purposes of registration or social security census; and
d. All those that, for any reason, require proof of living.
Document characteristics
By means of the life certificate, the consular authority declares that the duly identified person was present at the Embassy on a certain date.
For those unable to come to the Embassy in person, the certificate may be replaced by the completed and signed "life certificate form" (see item "How to request" below).
For the purposes of submission to the INSS, the document shall be valid for 90 days.

How to request
1. Read carefully all the instructions in this page, fill in the request form and gather the documents required.
2. Book an appointment by phone: +963 (11) 612-4551/4552/4557/4559
3. Bring the original documents and the form to the Embassy on the arranged date. If the application is complete, the consular agent will provide you with the deposit slip for payment. If not, they will ask you to provide further documents within 48 hours.
4. Once the payment is made, you must bring the proof of payment back to the Embassy.
5. Your application will be analised and prepared by the Consular authorities.
6. You will then be informed as of when to present yourself at the Embassy to collect the certificate.
Please note: if you are unable to be present at the Embassy, proof of living can be obtained through one of the forms below.
Select the appropriate option and read the specific instructions at the end of the document:
- Life certificate form (Formulário de atestado de vida) specific for the INSS, or
- Life certificate form (Formulário de atestado de vida) for retired individuals and pensioners of government agencies, or
- Life certificate form (Formulário de atestado de vida) for other purposes.
The form must be completed and signed before a Syrian notary public, and subsequently legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. After this procedure, the document must be translate by a sworn translator and legalized by the Embassy of Brazil in Damascus to be valid in Brazil, and must be sent directly to the competent body, according to the instructions given below.
Sending the certificate
The person concerned must send his/her own life certificate directly to the competent body.
