Non-Brazilian citizens who are family members of Brazilian nationals or of foreign nationals who are permanent or temporary residents in Brazil may request a family reunion visa to live in Brazil with said Brazilian national or permanent or temporary foreign resident. The family reunion visa may be requested at the same time as the foreign family member is requesting a visa of another category, such as student visa, researcher visa, or work visa.
A "family member" is:
I - a person married or in civil union with a Brazilian citizen or a foreign citizen who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil, regardless of sex or gender; marriages by proxy are not considered valid;
II - a child of a foreign citizen who is a temporary or pemanent resident in Brazil, regardless of age or whether the child is economically dependent of the foreign citizen; however, the foreign citizen cannot be a temporary or permanent resident because of a family reunion visa;
III - a stepchild of a Brazilian citizen or of a foreign citizen who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil if below the age of 18, or when student if below the age of 24, or regardless of age when economically dependent of the Brazilian or foreign citizen; however, the foreign citizen cannot be a temporary or permanent resident because of a family reunion visa;
IV - a parent to a Brazilian child or to a foreign child who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil; however, the foreign child cannot be a temporary or permanent resident because of a family reunion visa;
V - a grandparent to a Brazilian grandchild or to a foreign grandchild who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil; however, the foreign grandchild cannot be a temporary or permanent resident because of a family reunion visa;
VI - a grandchild to a Brazilian grandparent or to a foreign grandparent who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil; however, the foreign grandparent cannot be a temporary or permanent resident because of a family reunion visa;
VII - a sibling to a Brazilian citizen or to a foreign citizen who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil, if below the age of 18, or when student if below the age of 24, or regardless of age when economically dependent of the Brazilian or foreign citizen; however, the foreign citizen cannot be a temporary or permanent resident because of a family reunion visa;
VIII - a person who has custody or guardianship over a Brazilian citizen, regardless of the age of the Brazilian citizen.
The family reunion visa is valid for up to one year, renewable at the Federal Police in Brazil, even if the family member has a visa to Brazil valid for longer than one year.
To request a family reunion visa for Brazil, collect the following documents:
Mandatory documentation
- The applicant must fill out the visa request form with all information in full, including parents' names, available at https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br/sci/pages/web/ui/#/cidadao-nacionalidade. The form must be printed and signed by the applicant, and the photograph must be pasted on the appropriate field. Both parents or legal guardians must sign the visa form for applicants below the age of 18;
- The applicant’s passport, which must be valid and have at least two blank pages;
- A colored photograph, taken in a photographic studio, on photographic paper, facing forward, with white background, showing both ears, not smiling, not showing teeth;
- Certificate of criminal records issued by the place of residence, for applicants above the age of 18. Certificates issued by Police authorities that are not Danish or Lithuanian must be apostilled;
- Certificate of being a family member to a Brazilian citizen or to a foreigner who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil;
- Passport or other identification document of the family member who is a Brazilian citizen or foreigner who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil;
- An authorization to request a visa if the applicant is below the age of 18 years, signed in front of a notary public;
- A self-addressed envelope for return of the passport to addresses in Denmark, "rekommanderet + quickbrev", or you may use a courier service, as long as you make clear that you will pay for the courier service;
- Any other additional document that the Consular Section of the Embassy so requires.

Additional documentation
If the applicant is not married to a Brazilian citizen or foreign citizen who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil, the certification of civil union will be the following:
10. Declaration signed by two witnesses at a Danish or Lithuanian notary public that the applicant and the Brazilian citizen or foreign citizen who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil are in a civil union, and:
11. At least one of the following:
a. certificate by the tax authority, or equivalent, that either the applicant or Brazilian citizen or foreign citizen who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil are economically dependent of the other;
b. certificate of religious marriage;
c. will of either the applicant or the Brazilian citizen or the foreign citizen who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil from one to the other;
d. life insurance in name of either the applicant or the Brazilian citizen or the foreign citizen who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil, in favour of the other;
e. deed of property or rental agreement, in which both the applicant and the Brazilian citizen or foreign citizen who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil are owners or lessees;
f. joint bank account in name of both the applicant and the Brazilian citizen or foreign citizen who is a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil;
g. another document deemed sufficient or equivalent in local law.

After all mandatory and additional documents have been collected, have them delivered to the Consular Section of the Embassy of Brazil in by post or by courier, to the following address, between 10h and 13h, Mondays to Fridays, except public holidays:
